Is Kiki still shooting?

A couple of burly tournament officials had to intervene because even after the game was over she continued to shoot. The players for the next game were confused and wondering why this girl from the U.S.A. wasn't letting any of them have access to the ball racks. The decision was made to confiscate each ball as she shot it, then they escorted her off the floor, still making the shooting motion with her arms.

Bizarre.

Rice was rated the first and or second best HS player, so either we are wrong or ... we have not seen her at her best as a point guard running a team.

the USA offense was on the right side and was almost all slashing, Justine was totally unguarded on the left

I'm really just playing. I have been too busy today, so I only got to check in now and then as the game was running in the background. I got several chuckles because even though I didn't see much of the game, every time I did look in on it Kiki Rice was shooting. 🤣 She had a great game according to the box, including 7 assists, so it's all good.

she scores almost exclusively on attacks to the basket, rarely shoots over the defender.
No 3's
I would tell my defender to play a step and a half off of her and not bite on her first move

I would not enjoy following Rice on a team...She is way too much of a BALL HOG. She is definitely a volume shooter......

And yes, the quality of the video almost gave me a seizure with all the picture jerking......Very poor quality.

Saw all but the first couple of minutes, video did finally quit lagging. Was only interested in watching Justine. Saw her 3, and her other shots. At the beginning, she stayed out on the perimeter, then later they had her move under the basket some on defense. Since Kiki kept going to the right, she was a long way from Justine in the corner left. Justine was open a lot, but passes for a 3 shot really need to be timely, and that didn’t happen much.

It’s their first game, so really too early to critique much. Thought Justine ran, defended, dribbled and passed well. She did seem like a team player, talked to and encouraged her teammates.

She reminded me of Puckett in that instead of grabbing the rebound, she tapped it to someone else. Hope to see her scoring and rebounding more in the future games.

Just want her getting ready on Rocky Top.

As long as Kiki is on the court Justine will not get a lot of shots up....I know it is an honor but Justine would be far better off here with her teammates, getting use to their moves and idiosyncrasies, instead of watching Rice put up a hundred shots.

A special counter has been installed so the coaching staff can count the number of shots Kiki puts up in the first quarter...

Saw all but the first minutes of the first quarter. Justine was cold on shooting in the first half, but did drive the floor for a layup. Then, she came out after the half with 2 quick 3’s in the 3rd quarter, then missed the next 2, and got her third 3 in the fourth quarter, and missed the next.

The team spread the ball around much better. Justine looks like she could play any position on the floor. Her dribbling, passing, defense, and overall floor vision is really good. Glad she’s coming to Rocky Top!

Justine with 13 points today vs Puerto Rico.
She was 3 of 9 from 3 and 2 of 4 from 2.
Her 13 field goal attempts were the most on the team.
For those keeping count, Rice had only 5 fga's in 21'39" of play.
USA in a blowout after a slow start 94-38

I strongly believe Rice was told she needed to pass more today. This was the fewest attempts I’ve ever seen her take and her team was much better for it.

I don’t think she’s going to translate well at the next level. She doesn’t have much of a 3 point shot. Shoots a lot of mid range jumpers that just won’t be there in the PAC-12. She’s going to get blocked or turn it over unless she changes her game some.

Rice scored 6 points today, 2 field goals and 2 free throws, but you’re right about much less hogging the ball by her, and the team looked much better. Justine did not have to play with Rice for a lot of her playing time, which may have helped her results.

The threes Justine missed were all about 4-6 ft behind the 3 pt line. I think she hit all of the ones which were 3 ft of less behind it so the coaches might tighten her leash a bit if that is consistent.

Her arms are surprisingly long and allow her to recover well. And she will need to because her lateral quickness is not all that great.

She had some nice assists in this game, and should have had a couple more if her teammates had finished some fairly easy shots. She also had a couple of passes she shouldn't have thrown. One was when she should have taken the shot herself so she is unselfish to a fault at times. But it shows how multiple coaches trust her decision making that every game I have seen her in they always choose her to inbounds the ball. And her height at guard means she can feed the posts much more easily than most guards because she can see/throw over the defender.

She is just going to have to really hit the training table and weights hard, and work on her quickness. Like all freshmen, she will be a mixed bag with lots of room for improvement. But she looked like she belonged out there today and was pointing out things to her teammates. I think she will really thrive under Kellie because she is still raw in a lot of ways and is the kind of player who will thrive in a team setting.

Love to see her getting out in transition. Having a wing player that stands 6’4” makes that so epic. They get a head start playing on the perimeter then have the size advantage at the other end.

Brianna Stewart is a great example. She was always dangerous in transition with her size and mobility. Justine is built so similarly. If she’s even half the player Stewie was we’ve got a real one.

Brianna is one of the few huskies I actually like/admire. Loved her play and she seems like a cool cat.

I want her feeding the post a lot when Aalyah Del Rosario is in the game ! Try and get her to follow Justine to UT ! Seriously….. I hope they like playing with each other! It cannot hurt ? 🤷‍♂️
