Kasey Kahne says he was sick at Charlotte, but team's brake issues ?a mess? and ?a joke? | NASCAR News Now - SceneDaily.com

During the race several people tweeted that Kasey was furious at the team and the angriest he has ever been. Like the article said an RPM official told him to start pulling his weight and he left the track similar to Kyle Busch and had JJ Yeley finish the race.

My question is this, does RPM cut him loose and let him go to Red Bull five races early? They don't have a driver lined up for Martinsville so its a perfect time to do so.

Plus it also allows Marcos Ambrose to leave and take over the 9 car and allow Bobby Labonte to take over the 47 car. Ambrose has already said he would leave early if it would help the team get a jump start. Key here would be if Bud would OK letting Kasey leave.

Interesting to say the least.

With only five races left in the season, I don't see RPM letting Kahne go early. That team is a wreck. I don't blame Kasey for being mad and wanting out of there.

Kahne was so sick that he was able to run in his marathon 8 hours later. I figured there was more to the story. Can't blame him, his equipment has been garbage.

I don't blame the team for giving him nothing to run.

It appears since AJ committed on staying and Sadler and Kahne were gone they went from bad to terrible equipment.

Yeah the 9 will be driven by Aric Almirola for at least Martinsville. I don't think RPM would release Kahne if they weren't sure Marcos Ambrose was going to be able to take over. This also allows Bobby Labonte to get into the 47 car early as well.

This. Kahne's a helluva race car driver and that team is a joke. Kahne's cars have been crap and he's still the only driver for RPM that's even close to competing. Get the car close and he can drive it. They've been waay off at tracks that Kahne dominated when Ray was around.

Kasey didn't sign a contract with George Gillett. He signed one with Ray Evernham. There are certain stipulations of that contract on the part of RPM that are not being fulfilled.

Apparently RPM has no further use for the quitter. Good for them.

And Rick Hendrick is licking his chops, waiting to get him into a car.

Negotiations with Red Bull to run the remainder of the season were already underway when RPM decided to cut him loose. This decision was entirely his.

I thought Aric was running the Red Bull entry?

He was but they're putting Kasey in the 83 for the final five races and Aric will be driving the 9 at Martinsville Sunday. David Newton of ESPN said expect Ambrose & Labonte to be in 9/47 cars at Dega.

Gotcha. Haven't been home all day to read anything about it.

This literally just broke at about 8:42.

Also Jim Utter of the Charlotte Observer said that starting after Martinsville RPM will no longer have Roush-Fenway motors or cars.

You realize Allmendinger drives for the same team, right?

Resisting....trying to resist.....ok it's gone. I'm not taking the bait.

There's no bait. He is leaving the team. There's no reason to give him anything but lemons, especially when it became obvious he wasn't going to be in the Chase.

Here's an example of baiting: I like when you try to talk NASCAR. It works out about as well as it does when you try to talk football.

Since I'm sure you've obviously read the contract, please enlighten us.

Thats whats screwy with the way these deals work in NASCAR, where a guy is a lame duck for 1/2 the season or more.

I suppose with the very short turnover time from Homestead to Daytona it is nessecary to have everything in place ahead of time, though.

True, no reason to give Hendrick or Red Bull any info that should remain in house with RPM either. The only reason I could see them giving Kahne a decent car would be to keep Budweiser happy but they're leaving too so screw'em.

This is just one of those deals that works best for both parties with Kahne leaving.

I'm curious if Kenny Francis is leaving too or if Gustafson will be Kahne's chief when he arrives at Hendrick? I heard some talk of moving Alan to the #88 but if he cares at all about his career he will be in Rick's office begging him to remain with the 5.

Kenny said he'll stay on the 9 for the rest of the year then move over to Red Bull for next year. Francis said that he could either stay at Red Bull or move over to HMS with Kasey and that's what's probably going to happen. Why stay at a second rate team? It'll be Kenny Francis on the 5 car with Kasey and Alan over to the 88.

Burhead, what do you think of the rumors that RPM may not finish out the season? I hate it for Ambrose and AJ if they indeed fold up, but I can't feel sorry for them. They knew it was a possibility when Menard(cash cow), Kahne(the talented one), and Sadler(the marketable one) all left. I had my reservations about this team making it through next season before this all happened.

If junior continues to suck with Alan Gustafson then he will be out of excuses.
