Good evening fellow Volnation posters! I'm looking at either the Kamado Joe or the Big Green Egg. Anyone have any experience with either of these kamado style cookers? Kamado Joe seems like it might be a little bit more cost effective.

I have the Kamado Kooker by Char-Griller and respectfully disagree. Cooks just like an Egg and I spent $200 on closeout.

and you will spend at least 500 bucks on charcoal this year while I spend less than 100. They dont tell you that in the fine print.

Big green egg all day everyday. It is great and a quasi status symbol on your deck.

That shouldn't be a motivating factor. Will he get the same results without having to throw away unnecessary cash just to keep up with the Jones is more important.

Neither. I like my $75 electric Brinkman smoker from HomeDepot

Thanks Skin. I have been thinking about buying one of those, wasn't sure they would do a good job. I think I will pick one up now.

Inflation has hit, at least at our Home Depot . They are now $80.

Had a bge, it cracked. I now have the acorn by Char-griller. Paid 240$. It cooks the same as the bge. I can't tell a difference.

Whoa... who really has time to burn $500 of charcoal in a year? How often would someone have to grill to do that? Hell, how often would someone have to grill to burn $150 worth of charcoal? Are you freaking kidding?

I bought a bag of charcoal for about $10 (on 4th of July so it was actually overpriced) and only used half the bag to cook for 6 people.

The stacked Brinkmann smoker is awesome. The problem with the Charcoal/wood was air flow. Some mods had to be done. But I love those stacked smokers. Very much worth the money. I wore my charcoal/wood smoker out.

This is what they replaced the original charcoal/wood smoker with.

This is my newest one.

I really want a convection smoker and am designing one to build soon.

I've had @ 10 different grills. Honestly, steak is steak. My bison and steak is good on charcoal grills. Won't even discuss gas.
I see the difference in the bge with chicken. I have to cook chicken longer because my wife is always scared of raw chicken. Other grills dried it out when I had to cook it that much and with the bge, I've noticed even the overcooked chicken is very moist and juices flow when you eat it. That's why I like the egg. I also don't have to buy a new bag of charcoal everytime. Reusing logs is simple and works fine.
