Kayak Thread

Got into WW kayaking last year; love it. Every sport has its dangers, I don't think WW is anymore dangerous than a your daily car commute. Panic is the real danger; you've got to keep a clear mind when things go south in rough water. I always paddle with at least two buddies.

I'm a member of The Brown Belt Kayakers; we usually hit stuff in GA, NC, and TN.

Mid Tellico, Ocoee, Sweetwater Creek, Nantahalla, Cartecay, etc.

I just boated up recently, can't wait to get her into some gnar!

Man, One of the worst things about living in Florida is that I don't get to paddle anymore. I did hit the west prong and upper little when I was in town over thanksgiving last year. I'll be in town for about a month this summer, hopefully I can get some rain to cooperate.

So hopefully I can get enough attention on here even though this is such an old thread.

I'm in the market for a fishing kayak. I want my own individualized setup, so buying an already completed set up really isn't for me. There are small lakes all over the area in which I live, plus I'm a half mile walk to the Chesapeake Bay and about two miles to where it dumps into the Atlantic. The Chesapeake has some crests, but nothing major at all. I want something fairly stable, climb inside preferably and any insight on tricks and gear to help store tackle, rods, any other gear, etc. For right now at least, the fishing part will be on the lakes. I don't have any deep sea gear and I'm not really ready to buy any yet. But I would like to take it out on the Bay from time to time.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Why on earth is this thread in the Zone. Nothing against the Zoners, but this just screams Pub. Although Im sure there are some good kayaking Zoners.

I think fishing is a great idea for you Bill. You need to relieve some stress before you have a stroke.

Thanks for the advice on a kayak. It's a little on the heavy side, but looks promising.

As for the other part, your all's jokes are beyond stale. But, you still beat the main board just because the iq goes up dramatically in here. My BP is that of a 22 year old (I'm 33), my resting heart rate is only in the upper 40s. My blood levels are great. I'm in pretty good shape. You can quit making cracks about stress and mad and all that. If you aren't joking and believe my antics in the main board are stress, anger, mad, etc, maybe I'm wrong on the iq thing.

Edit: and now volley moved it so this post might be in trouble.

It's not that our jokes are stale, all our good jokes are deemed inappropriate and suffer from DPS.

I've never been kayaking. I'm guessing it's for people with good balance, which I do not possess. I'd probably flip the thing and drown.

I have some xanax if you need help with your anger issues.

So much so that it's the only joke left in the arsenal? That's depressing.

If you live near Chattanooga I will meet you and let you take one of mine out. The nucanoes are very stable and cut threw the water with ease.

Edit: visit not live

Any other whitewater beaters on here?

TN has some of the best ww in the country; Upper Tellico is one of my favorite runs - we hit it this past weekend. I swam more than I wanted, still a blast =)

Man that brings back memories. We used to run that in college, i.e. 15 years ago. I miss whitewater.

I just have a10' kayak. It's a future beach. Don't spend lots of money on one. To be honest. You could buy a $1800 Jackson and turn out not to like it. I like mine. Just went out this morning and did some fishing. Go cheaper and then figure out if you like it.

If you live in the midstate area, drive to Hendersonville and visit hook1. They will put you on old hickory lake (right behind there shop) which allows you to try any yak they sale. It's worth it.

Also they have a shop near 100 Oaks area and will allow you to see, touch, sit in any yak they have. This warehouse carries all there Internet sale items so they have it all.

If you don't want to come to Nashville area, drive to CFO (Caney Fork Outfitters). They carry multiple brands and are extremely helpful. Hit the fork while you are there.... It's cold now but it's cold all year round. The small my fishing is good right now. If you can play it right and you know some honey holes, the brownies are being pulled out at crazy lengths!
