so you don't think the powers that be of the ncaa receive money/kick backs from the crooked bowl presidents?
you should check out book, death to the bcs. that should open your eyes.
Just so that we're all on the same page here, you do understand that the BCS exists for the singular purpose of financially circumventing the NCAA, right? This is a very fundamental point. But it's a point that was obviously lost on the fella I quoted before.
And for the posters that don't know the meaning of the word "circumvent":
1. BCS money is distributed directly to the conferences.
2. As such, said BCS money never sniffs -- not even for a split second -- any bank account owned or operated by the NCAA.
Fact: this circumvention of the NCAA is entirely intentional.
My opinion: the BCS is a system with multiple multiple glaring flaws. Keeping the money outside the grubby paws of the NCAA, however, is not one of those flaws. Indeed, this is the one aspect of the BCS that is entirely sensical.
In view of the above, please explain how the NCAA will be benefiting from Cam Newton playing in the championship game. And to the extent your response is "because there is probably a guy at the NCAA that was paid off before conveniently coming to the conclusion that Cam Newton's eligibility remains intact", then don't even bother responding. Not that such a statement would be totally outlandish (it woudln't). But neither you nor I nor Dan Wetzel know if its true.
And, no, I don't plan on reading that book. The BCS has many many flaws...I agree. But I don't agree that the solution is a 16-team playoff. And I already knew that the financial workings of bowl games were shady.
