Kellie’s Post Game Interview: “Keyen Likely Out for Season”

She was blahhh the whole game and frustrated and didn’t play well...
Key is going to have to step up. With her size and mobility she should be the top post on the team. I think she has the skill set but fouls way too much. I am happy that Davis had a breakout game against IU. That is great news. Apparently, Horston played well also. We need a consistent three headed monster and Burrell, Davis and Horston could fit that bill real well. With that win we showed that we are able to compete with top 25 teams.

If only she could be taught to defend without fouling, and find enough offense to get 8-12 points per game. Those things happening with her starting next to a forward such as Suárez and this is a top 10 team easily. It will come together for her soon and I’m hopeful, but her development is essential to this team’s success.

Her development is definitely essential. If she can improve her body control just a bit more she’ll be much better on both ends. Defensively she really does not need to leave the floor. Get to the spot and put that big body straight up. Offensively she and KK both need to work on meeting the pass. As a big you have to learn how to post hard, then release contact to meet the ball and make your move in one motion. They’re trying to sit on their defender and it presents too much opportunity for the defense to get around and deflect the pass.

Suarez did a lot of intangible things tonight. She sets timely screens and keeps the offense spaced. She freed Rennia up for a wide open jumper when it was 54-53 and we really needed a bucket. Seems small but we’ve been missing IQ players like that for a long time. She also has great handles on the perimeter. Most of her turnovers come from getting too deep in the paint. She needs to learn to make her decision just a little quicker. Needs to score or pass a step sooner at this level. I think she’s gonna figure that out quickly in film!

I've seen a ton of Key, between pretty much every game last season and a lot of HS tape and I see the same player. Not much improvement at all. Is it the coaching or just that is who she is? Her frustration is obvious just looking at her facial expressions and body language. It's very concerning. KK is a senior and I believe she is who she is and they can't expect much more from her.

I believe all players who want one have been granted one. Been a few weeks since I read that but I’m pretty certain she can have one if she chooses.
Keyen Green will turn 23 on the 26th of December and Lou Brown was 24(now 25) when she graduated from Tennessee hopefully Keyen doesnt feel like she is too old to still be in school

If she has a legit chance at playing basketball professionally, I think she'd come back. If basketball was just a college thing for her and she'll be leaving Tennessee with a Master's degree come spring, I can't see the incentive for coming back.

Her incentive was to play at the power 5 level she got 4 games... if she wants to come back she will.

Well-wishes and prayers to Keyen for a successful surgery and speedy recovery and rehab. You have a very bright future ahead.

Thanks for coming to help us this season, Keyen (and next if you choose). We're sure you will provide leadership, encouragement, and mentoring for the rest of this season. You're a great teammate.

Well it’s not so much about feeling too old, as it is about growing beyond college. I mean, she would be 24 if she stayed for the 2021-2022 season. There’s a lot of growth in people in the span, and one can certainly see the difference between reality and college in that span.

I agree with you Key has much more potential, But how do we get her to display that talent. ? My thinking is KJH may need to hire a coach that has played in the post, And has worked with other post players. KJH has was hc at WC NCS Missouri St. No knock against John but, But i`m not sure if he has ever worked with a post player with Key`s potential. If you want we can throw Emily into the mix.
