Just saw this come thru on the news. What a great baseball player he was.
22 MLB Seasons
13 time All Star
10 Gold Gloves
7 Silver Slugger Awards
630 Career Home Runs

Wonderful career he has put together. Guess, he is going to settle into a front office job with the Mariners.

And growing up, he had the coolest rookie card. Still one of the classics!

His last few years in Seattle, he was about the best there was in the game.

When you can't stay awake for an entire game, its time to hang it up.

HOF'er no doubt. When he was younger he was without a doubt one of the best CFer's ever.

Not to mention he was never ever accused of any sort of drug use whatsoever.

One of my favorite players while growing up. Didn't pay that much attention to him while he was with the reds, but enjoyed watching him in Seattle his first time around

Sad day for baseball. I loved watching you in a Reds uniform, wished he would've retired as one. Go enjoy your retirement dude, you earned it!

Yep. I loved watching him play. One of the best swings I have ever seen.

Aint that the truth. My younger brother copied that stroke to a pretty good college career. Loved KGJr's game in the day.

The kid impressed me even more as his career wore on. He could have reaped huge rewards from PED's given his injury troubles and yet he didn't go there. You've gotta respect that. He was awesome to watch in the field and in the box. It's Willie Mays and KGjr in CF for me.

Lot of truth in that post.

Wow, talk about making one feel old... I saw his dad play from his rookie year to retirement, and now Jr.

I wish him the best.

I must be so jaded after the steroids era. To me, any big time slugger from the mid 90s-mid 2000s is suspect.

Yeah, me too. I guess that is why he is always been the one we always knew played with GOD given talent.

Not from some lab.

Tipping one to you Griffey Jr. Thanks for being a gentlemen when I met you as a little leaguer with my card and baseball. Meant alot.

Enjoy your success, as they say on the Sopranos,

i am glad he realized it was time and went out on his terms. he was not only one of the best ever, but he was an approachable guy who cared about the community. i met him on several occasions and i can remember one instance which i will never forget. he had just come to the reds and i was rubbing some baseballs in the dugout and griffey sr. was ripping into junior about something so dumb i can't for the life of me remember what it was even about. as the two were going back and forth the only thing i could think about was how lucky i was to be in the same place as those two. it was just a humorous moment, because the rest of the players seemed to be thinking the same thing i was.

probably the greatest father son combo to ever grace baseball. they are truly a great family and he should enjoy everything that comes his way in the future and we might be fortunate enough to see one of his kids in the bigs one day. thanks for the many memories junior.

About 6 or 7 years ago they had already anointed him the all time home run king based on what he had done and was doing at the time. I wonder if he just lost his passion for the Game? Still yet, one of my favorite players.

His body just broke down from all the injuries and he was never the same. Griffey from about 93-99 was about as good a baseball there ever was, though.

Jr. was one of my favorites. I hope he stays involved in Baseball in some way. He was an icon of a generation, and one of the last of the "good guys".
