Ainge was not highly touted. He had hardly any offers, what he did have were Oregon and Washington. I remember people being like wtf is this, until they saw his film showing him throwing those out patterns at his high school. He was relatively unknown because he hadnt put alot into football until his senior year, and with his stress fractures nobody bothered.

If I remember correctly, Schaeffer was the hot recruit that everyone was all excited about.

You are wrong. Ainge was highly regarded coming out of high school. He was a Top 10 Pro-Style QB.

Ainge was not highly touted. .

He was Gatorade player of the year in the state of Oregon. Was named one of the top 6 athletes in the Northwest US, and was a PrepStar All-America selection. He was a rivals 4-star qb and ranked #11 in the country among pro-style quarterbacks.

There weren't many guys more "highly touted" than he was. Rhett Bomar, Chad Henne, Brian Brohm, Drew Weatherford, and Anthony Morrelli were the only drop-back passers receiving much more hype than Ainge.

Ainge was pretty highly touted, I remember being pleased we got him. I'm sure he had offers from other schools, scout doesn't list evey offer a player gets.

Player of the year in Oregon is like the player of the year in montana, woopty.

Ainge did not have those rankings until the final rankings came out because of UT, hes one of the few that ever had that happen, normally they drop.

I followed recruiting religiously bck then, maybe moreso than i should have, dual subscriptions etc.

Ainge had no big time offers at the time, sure he had the local schools and UCLA, but they were not what I consider big time offers. UT came in VERY late on him and he took it because it was his best offer by far. He was relatively unkown(outside of that area) until then and then videos started popping up all over and his rank did go up.

Say what you want by what you see now but I remember that whole process like it was yesterday. He had no offer from ANY BIG TIME schools, wheres the USC, or any top program offers if he was so highly touted?

I am in no way knocking Ainge, I enjoyed his time here and think he was a great kid, but I am stating what I know from the recruiting process back then.

Dont let the "facts" fool you.

I don't understand.

We're pointing out actual facts. You're discussing matters of opinion. No "BIG TIME" schools offered him? UT isn't big time? Unless you get an offer from Southern Cal, you're not highly touted?

I said no other big time schools. You are going by year end rankings, he WAS NOT a 4 star until their final rankings after he had been offered by UT.

Someone who is "highly touted" is a common name who gets alot of offers etc. He was an unkown until October.

This is a losing battle, you are only seeing what is old news and not how the process actually went.

The facts are he wasnt highly rated until December of that year before signing day. But, whatever.

So he did not have any offers from Big Time schools other then Oregon, and Arizona State...before our offer.

Wow I wish we could currently recruit a player or two from each school's class to finish our class. We should go in and say "hello we are a BIG TIME school" not like the school you are currently signing with; that last year was ranked in top 5 for some portion of the season.

Your facts are entirely fiction.

Ainge signed in February of 2004...you say he wasn't highly rated until January of 2004. That's not accurate at all.

In early October (5 months before signing day), Rivals ranked Ainge as their 13th overall quarterback. He did move up to 11th by the end of his senior year...perhaps that's where they draw the line between being a nobody and being highly touted.

In July of 2003, before his senior season began, he participated in the Elite 11 camp. Amazing that they'd invite an "unknown" to the camp.

one more thing, when you watch Ainge get drafted in the first 4-5 round this year, your thoughts of him "blooming" or his "rankings" will mean as much as he did before he got a BIG OFFER

JayTrain....why are you so misinformed, they invited a bunch of nobodies to previous year's Elite 11......

here are a few of them :

Carson Palmer, Jason White, Matt Leinart and Troy Smith, as well as Drew Brees, Vince Young, David Carr, Ben Roethlisberger, Jay Cutler Chris Leak, and many more.

YOU need to stop being such a silly goose

Heard a few more rumors today...again, nothing more than rumors from other players and stuff, but alot of them think he's headed to Knoxville

cool, I thought it might be during the school day. It would be pretty sweet to watch him pull out the UT cap, I sure hope he does.

So do I...but that would be pretty sweet...I have a gut feeling it's gonna be Clemson but who knows?

A guy I work with called me this morning. He walked into a high school basketball game Tuesday and was surprised to see Kenneth Page . . . sitting next to Phil Fulmer.
