Kenny Chesney loves him some Spurrier

I like the ole ball coach. I did not like him "owning us" during his Florida years. He did an outstanding job at Florida and and now South Carolina . He turned both programs into top programs in the nation. IMO Spurrier has been the best SEC football coach in my lifetime. The only other coach in the SEC that compares to Spurrier in any way is Saban. I rank Spurrier higher because FL and SC were tougher rebuilts than LSU and Bama.

I certainly hope we get to see the ole ball coach throw his visor to the ground several times when Butch shows Spurrier the SEC East has a new sheriff on November 01, 2014.

Kenny still loves his Vols, no big deal.

No, Kenny's bank account loves him repping whichever SEC program is hot. Unless you think it's common for UT fans to put on a UF helmet and do the gator chomp on stage with Tebow. He was also on UT's sidelines during a UT-UF game in Knoxville and wore completely neutral colors. He's just hopped on board with another team now that UF is down.

I do hope he comes back around to being a UT fan though, because that will mean we're back on top.

Lol like you have any idea where his loyalties lie.

But he hasn't won an SEC Championship at SC and has only even been to the SECCG once and lost badly...also, his tenure at SC coincided with the beginning of Tennessee's downfall (2005) and yet his record at SC vs Tenn is still just 5-4.

I'm not bitter because of where he played his college ball which was well before I was born. Most Vol fans understand that was due to the single wing offense we were still running under Bowden Wyatt. This thread has left out the snark filled comments that he was responsible for and that most coaches don't do.

"Can't spell Citrus without UT."
"1996 Knox County Champions"
"Peyton Manning returned because wanted to be the 3 time MOP of the Citrus Bowl."

Fulmer had his chance to serve Spurrier some crow in '97 and '98 but had a little more class than Steve has ever shown. Spurrier only shows humility when he has no other choice.

F'n A! Word, this, what he said, tifwiw, IMO , bbq, 3CPO

Love Spurrier

He's as genuine as they come

Tells it like it is and rarely ever makes excuses

And he's one hell of a coach

Wish we would of hired him back in 2004

Kenny loves UT a lot. But he's also a businessman and a marketer. Whichever city he goes to, he plays to the city's culture. That's what a lot of entertainers do. Any artist that plays a concert in Memphis almost always does an Elvis Presley cover or sings "Walking in Memphis" and many promote the Memphis Tigers.

I can't stand that little snot-nosed smarmy Spurrier. And I question Kenny Chesney's Vol loyalty...

You're knocking Spurrier for not winning the SEC at South Carolina? Really?

In its history South Carolina never won 10 games in a season before Spurrier. They've won 11 games the last three seasons, during the SEC's most competitive era ever.

UT's downfall has little to do with South Carolina's rise. It's all Spurrier. The idea that any coach at South Carolina has a winning record against Tennessee should be a cause for concern...but we're talking about the head ball coach.

I was pointing out that even during the worst run in Tennessee history and South Carolina's best run that the series is basically even...and it's also fair to point out that the SC program Spurrier took over from Lou Holtz in '05 was not that bad.

It wasn't too long ago South Carolina was on par with traditional SEC doormats Vandy and UK. The fact that Spurrier is batting slightly above .500 against UT isn't something to gloat about as a UT fan.

Spurrier took South Carolina's football program to heights Holtz never dreamed of.

Not sure I buy the last paragraph here. For one team to win, another team has to lose. It's simple math. It's also simple math that each division in the SEC can support roughly 3 teams being up at the same time. Historically, these three teams in the East have been Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia. But for the last few years, the "Big Three" in the East have been Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina (or South Carolina, Missouri, and Vanderbilt, if you want to talk about last season's truly piss-poor state of affairs). While some Tennessee fans would argue Fulmer's downfall began when UT lost the 2001 SECCG, I think it can more easily be traced to 2005, when he had his first losing season. Coincidentally, that just so happened to be the year Spurrier was hired at South Carolina. Since then, it's logically obvious that South Carolina took Tennessee's place in the SEC East pecking order.

Now this isn't something that just happens at South Carolina unless the whole equation changes for them. Steve was that change agent. So we agree there, but it then logically follows that the downfall of Tennessee is directly related to the upswing of South Carolina. And if you want to extend that out farther, hypothetically, the OBC doesn't appear to be losing his edge anytime soon, which, assuming Butch Jones is indeed the answer at Tennessee (hugely premature assumption), then either Florida or Georgia is in for a long decade at the bottom as Tennessee rises back to the top with South Carolina.

Time will tell, I guess.

Spurrier has always been low-class trash, the opposite of good sportsmanship. There have been plenty of technical good coaches who had class and dignity. But he wasn't that big of a man.
