Living here in Kentucky all I see on the News, Twitter or Facebook is how Kentucky is putting together their greatest recruiting class in history. I think it is great for the SEC and the Rivalry but Im not a Kentucky fan nor do I care about Stoops Troops or BBN. I do not like it when they feel necessary to talk smack to me when most of them no nothing about recruiting at all. There are some UK fans on here come looking for trouble and their are some who are legit rational Posters. I was bored at work and looked up some info that I wanted to share. It is not meant to offend any of the Wildcat faithful but only to ease the mind of my fellow VFL's that we are not being out recruited by Rivals to the North.
First of all if you want to beat or compete with the best on the field it starts with Recruiting. Alabama and Ohio State are who I consider the top teams in College football this year. I used Rivals as a resource and compared the offers by Alabama and Ohio State to both Kentucky's and Tennessee's Comitts. I found that not a single one of Kentucky's recruits has an offer from Alabama and that only Thaddeus Snodgrass, Jared Tucker, and Denzel Ware have offers from Ohio State. Out of their 5 4 star committs only one , Snodgrass, has an offer from the Buckeyes.
We have won recruiting battles vs Bama and Ohio State for Hurd, Kelly, Payne, Brown, Wolfe, and Bryant. Many of our 3 star Committs have better offer lists than Barker, Horton, and West who are all 4 Star UK Committs. I will admit that I am a star gazer as much as anyone else but I am also smart enough to realize that College Coaches are better talent evaluators than the Journalism Majorers that work for Rivals or Scout.
Stoops has focused and been sucessful in the Ohio area picking up nearly 50% of his Committs. I would think that growing up in the Buckeye State that most of these Committs might be Buckeye Fans. If Urban decides to offer one I dont think that it would be a hard task to flip their commitments. Stoops has convinced to keep Barker and Middleton in state. I look for DT Matt Elam to stay at home as well but this is not a great year for in state Talent. To be sucesful he needs to get into Florida, Georgia, and Texas to go toe to toe with the instate Schools.
Looking at the last 4 recruiting classes Kentucky has signed a total of 101 prospects. Kentucky was a young team last year and only has 14 Seniors on their 2013 roster. They have has some attrition but I will stick to my estimate of 22 signees for 2014 to stay within the 85scholarship limit. Tennessee has Signed 88 the past 4 classes including 21 for the 2013 class. That only leaves an estimated 4 to 5 more signees for UK and 14 for the Vols.
I am not as impressed with the quality of UK's class as I am the quantity. Stoops is selling UK like a Medicine
Man selling miracle in a bottle at traveling show. He has brought alot of excitement to a program who has been traditionally at the bottom of the SEC for years.
The moral of my story is that Tennesse fans are looking at the recruiting ratings and some are upset that we are behind Kentucky at his current point , they have 2 more Committs and a few more points. In the long run we are recruiting toe to toe with Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, and South Carolina for recruits while Kentucky is Battleling it out with Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Mississippi State for the left overs.
Both Jones and Stoops are doing a great job for the situations they were hired into. Jones has been hired into what he calls his destination . I think Stoops may win 3 possibly 4 games this year and build UK into a 6 or 7 win team in a few years and move on. Both teams are on the way up but I feel Kentucky plato at 8th in the SEC over all while Butch takes us up to the top.
