Kentucky: 2010 National Champs

I think I agree about not watching the UK/UT games next year. The 2 embarrassments were bad enough this year, against a UK team that sucked by UK standards.

If Pearl thought the disgruntlement was bad this year, he better get ready if/when UK beats the snot out of UT twice next year. Because getting raped 2 times a year by Kentucky isn't going to cut it, no matter how many NCAA trips he makes.

I always chose one team to win it all before the season and bet 50 bucks on them. It's paid off before. 2007 I was a homer (and greedy) and took Tennessee when we were at 35:1. *shrug* Oh well.

I do this every year as well. I actually took UK yesterday. I mean, I would have taken UK if gambling were legal. Also, I did this in (2005?) for LSU at something like 60-1 early on in the season. Once they made it to the final four, I hedged my bets and the moneyline on whoever they were playing. It was quite delightful. I mean, all of that would have been quite delightful if and only if gambling were legal.

I don't really think players like the Morris twins and Morningstar are that great - atleast compared to what UK will have. I forgot that Henry signed with KU though. Is Collins returning?

I like UK's front court more - I'm sure Kansas has better depth at this point though and if Collins is returning then I'd say the back courts are about equal if these freshman for both sides live up to the hype.

KU should be the favorite. UK has a great recruiting class to mesh with a team that has won exactly 1 NCAA tourney game. Not exactly a juggernaut. UK is Sweet 16 team at best.

Your a correct about not sure how this team will mesh and that will be the biggest factor with this group. But this will be a totally different team than the one the only had 1 NCAA tourney game and UK still has a great leader in Patterson and probably Meeks who was 2nd team all american on a bad team last year and a up and coming star IMO in Miller (who BCG hardly played last year) then add the #1 recruiting class and I would say it is at worst a sweet 16 team.

Your season will be considered a failure if Coach Cal can only make it to the Sweet 16 with this team.

He's not going to have John Wall, Patterson, Meeks, and possibly Cousins the next year.

You're forgetting he's a bitter Memphis fan. Not UK.

someone please tell me how south carolina can beat UK 2 times by 1 point and 18 points and lose to UT twice, yet UT lost to UK by around 20 or so both times? Makes no sense. And don't tell me it is about matchups

BCG and his style of play was Bruce's coaching kryptonite.
UT had a large size advantage over USC and used it by guarding the 3 and owning the glass.
USC's style of play (similar to UT in '06) ran circles around UK. Outside of Patterson, UK didn't have the athleticism down low to play USC like UT did.

That's the best I can do.

It's all about matchups. If you honestly don't believe that then you don't need to bother watching sports anymore. Matchups are more crucial in basketball than most any sport.

I agree with UKVOLS. But the speed of USC guards were just impossible for UK to defend was a biggest difference in my mind.

Horn being from Lexington probably made him work a little harder to win those games. JMO

Absolutely. If you wish for further proof, watch the Cavs/Magic series. Nobody figured the magic would hang with the Cavs, yet they are up 2-1, and its ALL about match ups.

You can hide or mask such things in other sports. You will NOT however be able to disguise weaknesses in matchups in the game of basketball.

To the extent any of you are interested in this sort of thing, vegas now has UK as the odds-on favorite to win it all. UK is 5-1. KU is 6-1.

That is great news!
The Higher the pedestal they put Cal and the Cats on, the farther they will fall. I love it. I don't like either!

It's because South Carolina sucks.

A lot.
