Kentucky and the apr

that same case would say they really didnt need to go to college in the first place - a case which i totally agree with btw

also interesting that you only see this in sports that aren't predominantly white - noone cries about tennis players not going to college - not sure what to make of that, just always thought it was an interesting factoid

A good point- I edited my original post, added a little fuel to the conversation concerning 1 and 2 year institutions.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that those kids' grades have been significantly altered. Kentucky is as tight-knit a fanbase there is. Every dadgum one of em doesn't care if their program cheats, and I mean EVERY ONE of them. Heck, they hired Cal didn't they? Hasn't he been involved with grade tampering before? Color me skeptical, but I think they let these elite kids know that they won't have to worry about anything but basketball in Lexington. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a prerequisite for a professor to put in writing that they will put bball before academics. They cheat, end of story.

Proof? Or hatred?

I see a lot of hate. Where's the proof?

These kids are basketball players, they come to UK with the knowledge that they are going to the Nba in one or two years. Don't blame them for not challenging themselves to the max academically. And according to what I know, only one player did bad in school. The rest either graduated, or left in good standing. Some even continue to take classes to continue school.

I'd hold back from throwing stones when a few years ago UT was one of the only schools in the SEC who refused to release men's basketball GPA's.

For kids who know they will be one and done (or two and done), how tough can it possibly be to maintain a decent GPA? Figure they have to take 12 credit hours a semester (four courses) and since they are not focused on any specific major they can take any four courses they so desire, correct? (Maybe I am wrong on this assumption)

A quick browse of UT's undergraduate catalog, and one can put together the following full-course load semester, that would be incredibly easy:

BUAD100: Approaches to the College of Business Administration (Integration into the College of Business Administration with emphasis on academic and career planning, college success strategies, and professional development.) (1 credit hour)

MLSL 101: Military Science (2 credit hours)

MLSL 102: Military Science (2 credit hours)

MUCO 115: Music in the US (3 credit hours)

MUCO 120: History of Rock n Roll (3 credit hours)

PHIL 101: Intro to Philosophy (3 credit hours)

I would think that anyone who could not hold down at least a 2.0 for such a semester is nearly brain dead. Further, I assume that all the coaches know exactly which selection of 24 credit hours (one full year) is nearly impossible not pass with minimal effort.
