After the legends at both schools (1975-current)
UCLA:
843-351 winning % .706
NCAA CHAMP - 1995
UK:
997-304 winning % .767
NCAA CHAMP - 1978 1996 1998 2012
I got this from Wikipedia so take it for what it's worth...
Interesting to see you start at 1975. You said earlier the greatest of "all time," which is false.
National Championships::
UCLA 11
UK 8
If you only cared about championships I suppose we're second greatest of all time. I think a more balanced approach is to include other things like total wins, winning percentage, NCAAT wins...UK is first in those categories...UK has a bunch of final fours I don't remember how many...14 maybe?
Point is before 1975 UCLA was the unquestioned best team of all time. Since then they've won 1 championship and had a .706 winning percentage which is good but not enough over nearly 40 years to be on top.
UCLA has more NCAA championships than any other college team. Therefore, they're still considered the greatest college basketball team until another team wins more championships than they do. Simple as that.
