Kentucky @ Florida

It is possible for a team to score just one point in a college football game. If the TD scoring team somehow gets tackled in their own endzone for a safety on the PAT, the defensive team would be awarded one point.

I would sell one of my arms to watch this happen.

Not ratings. I was referring to the money that UT and Kentucky get when LSU and Alabama play in BCS bowls. Or the fat ESPN TV contract.

yeah, you want to fill the stadium up, but my point is that it's not everything.

So, TV ratings will be the focus when replacing Joker?

I think they go hand in hand. If the program is relevant, attendance and TV ratings will increase together.

If any team can do it it's UK.

It's only happened 3 times:

Known one-point safeties:
1. Westminster vs. West Liberty State (NAIA Division II), September 7, 1996.
Westminster holder Kevin Freeman fumbled the snap. Abandoning the kick, he rolled to his right, but threw an interception, which Liberty caught on the 1-yard line. The interceptor was immediately tackled, causing a fumble that Liberty recovered in its own end zone.

2. Moorpark College vs. Bakersfield (Junior College), September 21, 1996.
Moorpark kicker Tim Wolleck's extra point was blocked and recovered by a Bakerfield defender at the 3. The defender retreated into his own end zone, and was tackled there.

3. Texas vs. Texas A&M, November 26, 2004.
Texas had just scored a touchdown off a blocked punt to cut Texas A&M's lead to 13-12 in the 3rd quarter. The snap on the extra point was low and was bobbled by backup holder Matt Nordgren, causing Dusty Mangum's kick to be blocked. A Texas A&M player picked the ball up but was immediately tackled and fumbled the ball into the end zone, where it was recovered by another Texas A&M player.

Perhaps I'm not following.

Are you saying that the money UK takes in from its SEC membership is worth so much more than selling tickets at Commonwealth, to the point that the UK AD doesn't care how the team is doing, so long as the SEC checks keep coming?

That's what it sounds like.

Other poster: Petrino would sell tickets.
You: TV ratings > ticket sales
Me: Huh?
You: SEC money, not UK's ratings
Me: HUH?

It sounds like basketball is so much more important than football up there, that the only thing that matters with football is staying in the SEC to collect the conference checks. Fiscally, you make perfect sense, but dang.

You've said several times, I think, that you personally prefer football to basketball, so there must be a misconnection between us somewhere in this thread.

Wow, three all time (that are known), and two of them came in the same month.

Pretty funny in the Texas/Texas A&M game b/c the announcers don't even know about the rules and are like "wtf?".

When was this rule made? Surely not in the old days. Must have been made in the 80s-90s.

I am watching it right now too. Pretty simple; what matters is whether or not TAMU possessed the ball in the field of play and then fumbled it back into their own end zone.

Someone made an interesting comment on youtube about the fact that the holder did not have the ball when it was kicked. Perhaps it should have been illegal kicking right there and a penalty. My guess is that when you line up to kick like that, the holder isn't required to possess the ball, so long as the kick happens right away. But, I honestly don't know.
