Kentucky Foe in 2020

This is about as big an overreaction as people had about Cameron Newton getting signed by Auburn out of JUCO. As if one one transfer player is gonna change everything for a team.

As long as Stoops doesn't pick up a Nick Fairley through the transfer portal, the rest of the SEC should be ok.

He was third string. Just like Shrout

All I know is that all season long Auburn fans were clamoring for Gatewood, and no other QB, to start over Nix, basically because they believed his skillset as a DT QB was better suited to Gus' offense than Nix'.

And lots were yelling for Maurer and Shrout as fans. Think we’d be 7-5 right now with either? That’s why coaches coach not fans.

That's not my point, although I think young 'run first' QBs have a better chance of success early on than pro-style QBs. But my point was, Auburn fans were convinced Gatewood was the best guy on the bench, not whoever the supposed #2 QB was, mainly because Gatewood has the skillset most all DT QBs have; average passer but excellent runner, and so he seemed to be a better fit to Gus' 'slight of hand' offense that needs a DT QB to be at its best. Gran built some of those veer/triple option concepts into the UK offense for Bowden this season. In 2 seasons, when Gatewood is available at UK, I would be surprised if we don't see Gran implement a similar offense to best use Gatewood's skillset. His size and skillset sort of reminds me of that big QB we faced against Va Tech in the Battle of Bristol.

Gatewood looks to be the perfect fit for the Kentucky offense. A run first team, but they've needed a QB who has at least average passing skills to keep defenses from loading the box on every down.

He won’t play til 2021 and he wasn’t good enough to play at auburn so there’s that. Ky will always be Ky to us.
I have a lot of family that are Auburn fans and went to Auburn. They say Gatewood was the better player over Nix and that Nix only played because of his last name. I don’t know if it’s true or not but I bet Gatewood will be tough at KY.

The guy that wrote the article didn't even Mention Lynn Bowden who basically won games for them with his running. He mention Wilson the JUCO like he was the QB that came in from WR. Wilson may be back but he's not a dynamic running QB and Gatewood isn't either. If you cannot be a running QB in Malzahn's system, no worries about this guy.
Gatewood is a far better runner than Nix actually.

Well he couldn't beat out Jarret Stidham his freshman year & RShirted and with Malzahn's job in jeoprady i'm sure he would start who he thought gave them best chance ro win. You may be right he may just fit in better with Gran. In 5 games limited action his QB rating was 42.4.

Kentucky will be Kentucky in 2020 even with the new addition. I think the Mildcats will go 7-5 and be 3-5 in the SEC.

I just said he can run. The kid may not be able to throw one in the ocean. I haven’t seen him throw enough to know myself. I do have a lot of family that went to Auburn and are fans and they said all year Nix wasn’t the right guy to start. Stidham transferred in with quite a strong reputation so no shame in a freshman not beating him out. All I know is it doesn’t matter who UK puts at QB. We will still whip that you know what.

Stoops has been building a pretty decent program in Lexington. Last two years a top 25 defense and recruiting is, by Kentucky standards, better than it has been forever. Now starting to get depth all around and the biggest weakness has been the failure to get a top rated QB. Hampered this year by Terry Wilson going down in game 2. But this UK team is on the verge of being a dangerous opponent. I don't see them dropping back in the near future. Of course, no matter how good they get, TN will be in their psyche until they actually are able to quit giving games away.
