Historically, they actually incorporated checkerboard into their schemes before we did. We have it on the clock tower at Ayers Hall, and General Neyland used to say to the team, "Run towards the end zone and don't stop until you reach the checkerboards", at that time, implying the checkerboards on Ayers. It wasn't until later that we used them in our endzones, and it became nationally recognizable and associated with Tennessee. However, they brought it back a few years ago and incorporated it into their own uniform schemes, so naturally, many TN fans unfamiliar with that story think UK is copying us, when in actuality, we're each unique in our own use of checkerboards at a certain point in history/time.

Now, if they start using it in their endzones as well, the gloves come off.
