Kentucky vs South Carolina

I don't understand the hate. Jealousy maybe? He's been more successful then any coach we've had for 20 years.

20 years ago means Fulmer’s last 7 seasons. We went to Atlanta 2 times with 3 ten seasons and 1 nine win season. Not sure Stoops will come close to that in a 7 season stretch.

Hell Fulmer, with two losing seasons, was 57-29 over his final 7 seasons.

In 10 seasons, Stoops has won more than 8 games 2 times…..

We've been a train wreck for over a decade. Calm down. They are flying high for them, and until CJH, we've been a damn dumpster fire

And in said train wreck, he's 2-7 (about to be 2-8) against us. His 2 best teams lost to UT teams he should have beaten, and his 2 wins over UT were against arguably the 2 worst UT teams in the modern era.

Nobody is jealous of that.

The only team that he should have a better record against is Tennessee. Stoops should be about .500 or maybe even better against us. He's been as expected or good against everybody else in the East.

UK does not hire football coaches to beat Georgia, Florida, or Tennessee (although they should be better against us since 2008 given how bad we've been). They hire football coaches to beat Vandy (7-2), South Carolina (7-3), and Mizzou (6-3), and he's done a good job of that. They are a cellar-dwelling program historically but have not been since he took over.

Overall I agree, but I think he deserves the crap he's gotten for not beating us. Even Vandy took advantage of us being down. The 2018 game especially was the biggest egg he's laid of his career and last year wasn't as bad but close. Both games probably cost UK NY6 bowl games, and his window for beating us has closed. Maybe it's a bit unfair because he did get the Florida gorilla off their back but I know it sticks in their crawl that they could only get 2 wins against us when they should have at least been closer to .500 in his time.

I think he's a great coach for UK, but I don't think he'd be great at a place with actual expectations.

Yes, he deserves (and receives) grief for that, but it's really the only blemish on his career there. I still scratch my head at how they played in the 2018 game against us; not only did they play poorly, but they never looked like they had any life despite having a lot to play for. He performs as or better than expected against all their other regular opponents, has 3 victories in NYD bowls in the last 4 seasons, and they have not even been close to being a bottom-dweller for the last 6+ seasons (which they are historically). I also have doubts he'd deliver great results at a big time program, and given that UK is paying him a top-15 salary, he'd be idiotic to leave.

Mark Stoops might get some heat if he's at UK in 2023. If Kaiya Sheron is the starting Quarterback for Kentucky they will win 4-5 games at best I believe.

I think he's going to get some grief by the end of this season. While hard to gauge becuase it's messageboards and that's not always a great indicator of the actual temperature of the fanbase, places like CatsIllustrated seem to be on the verge of turning on him ala how UT fans "turned" on Butch in 2016. The Ole Miss loss wasn't great but at the least it was at Ole Miss and OM is (for now) undefeated and Top 10 and they still pretty much gave the game away at the end. But the SC game was a pretty big egg. Even without Levis they should have beaten SC, at home.

Fans are funny. They might start firing people for not winning a national championship, who knows? There's no accounting for what people get in their heads about the "expectation", although it's really up to the AD.

Mark Stoops seat will be significantly warmed up if Kentucky wins 6-7 games this season and 4-5 in 2023

The heat will increase on Mark Stoops at Kentucky if they win 6-7 games this season and have a losing season with 4-5 wins in 2023. I'm listening to the Mark Stoops Show to see what he says about South Carolina and the coming loss to Miss State.

It's funny the Kentucky fans on the Mark Stoops Show were saying they are going to win out and possibly win the SEC East and get a New Years Six Bowl Game

I mean, that could be said about any coach who achieves those results after a long string of good seasons.

He is in no danger of losing his job unless he strings together multiple seasons where they miss bowl games. UK owes him 75% of whatever is left on the contract if they fired him, and he's locked up through 2027. Plus he adds an automatic one-year extension with a 7-win season...he should be able to beat Mizzou, Vandy, and Louisville to trigger that.

Sounds like what Tennessee owed Derek Dooley and Butch Jones
