Kentucky vs. UCONN

Wall could be Jodie Meeks v2.0 against us this year. If he scores 25 vs. UConn, God only knows how many he'll put up being "guarded" by Maze/Goins.

Henceforth we shall be introduced as "Sir John Wall and the Kentucky Wildcats."

Some observations:

1)This kid is ridiculous. We are 4-5 without him.

2)Demarcus Cousins really played well in the second half offensively and on the boards.

3) I'm still baffled as to how we got beaten on the boards by a team that got hammered on the boards by Dook. Lack of effort really, as we had all the size and athletic advantage.

4) our transition D was atrocious. Terrible. Borderline non-existent at points.

5) We suck at guarding the pick-n-roll also. They burned us for a couple lobs and some easy layups too many times.

6) Eric Bledsoe can go from Einstein to Ernest in .002 seconds sometimes. But thats freshmen.

7) Nobody can outrun us. They might swap baskets with us, but there's not many teams in the country that can match us in the open floor.

8) (concerning #7) Thank God, because our half court set is still lacking when John Wall is not in the game. If he did not set out 9 minutes in the first half with foul trouble, this game is won by about 8 or 10, IMO.

Also as I watched with my wife it was clear that for once, UK was not getting the calls.

I am used to UK like Kansas, UNC and Duke getting all the whistles. They were calling ticky tack on UK and letting UK players on offense get abused, especially down low.

Yep. Of course, I was biased.

John Wall is incredibly athletic, but TOs will haunt him at some point.

Cal mentioned them before the game and said it is a point of emphasis for him.

Something that will not haunt him that tells me that TOs can be fixed is that he can make his FTs. That is great also for UK fans because if you suck at FTs we know Cal cannot fix you.

TO machines don't very often get it fixed.

True. Great showing by Wall last night, but it will be interesting to see how UK handles those TOs when he plays a team that can actually make him pay for them. That being said, Wall could probably go for 30 against the Lakers today. He is that good.

He's not 30 points per night in the NBA good.

Calipari has to have some concerns with Cousins. He hasn't played up to the reputation.

Not 30 a night, but he could have some 30 point games in the NBA right now. I see the potential in Cousins, but he is not a one and done player like everyone has made him to be. I'm looking forward to see him against Chism. That should be entertaining.

He has actually, but in spurts. Which is the problem, no consistency. When he does show up, he dominates the game. However when he is not on his game, he actually hurts us instead of maintaining some sort of consistency.

The second half last night for him was great. He made some good post moves for a couple of dunks. Ended up with a double double (10/11)

I'm not as concerned with the talent or reputation, as I am with the work ethic. His brain has got to catch up with his abilities. He is still looking at refs for calls that were not made, and pouting while going up and down the floor. Typical freshmen, he has some learning to do. Although in some cases, it never takes hold. (i.e Randolph Morris)

If you watched last night, you probably noted the times he made a crossover at the top of the key, penetrate then pull up from the elbow with a jumper. He also hit it consistently. If he continues to perfect that jumper along with his open court moves, he will absolutely have a large amount of 30 point games in the NBA.

Does he average 30? No, he will probably average around 17-20 points and 7-10 assists per game. However, there will be nights where he is lights out.

I watched every second, except for the times ESPN decided to have a technical malfunction. Wall is an NBA player right now. The more I see of him, the more I am starting to believe the hype for this kid, unbelievable.

That said, you will have to come up with a gameplan for when Wall goes to the bench to rest. Kentucky goes from looking like the 1998 team to looking like Georgia when Wall is out of the game.

tennessee vs UK should produce some great games this year

I hope you are right, but I fear you are not. I saw a UK team that made a ton of freshman mistakes go toe-to-toe with a really good, athletic, physical UConn team and win. That's really, really scary.

you gotta be kidding me. I don't want to see our defense against Wall/PP/Cousins.

What is worse than that is looking to the future. Bledsoe is going to be a player. So is Cousins. Thornton shows some signs. So does Miller. So does Dodson. Liggins did at times last year and can't get on the floor. Hood is relegated to the bench. All of them are freshmen or sophomores. Even presumably losing Patterson and Wall this year, they are loaded for seasons to come.

Kentucky went from the NIT to a Final Four favorite in 8 months, and I don't see them slacking off in the foreseeable future.
