The thing about some of the blue bloods they focused on basketball when the rest of the world knew football is king. So sure Kentucky won championships under Rupp but don't think for a second if they could go back in time and change what they did to Bear Bryant to Rupp they wouldn't do it. Over the years basketball mattered more to other schools but we were alloted so far behind. So their blue blood status is more about tenure of focus on the particular sport more than anything to me.

Yep. No basketball school actually wants to be a basketball school.

And the longer time goes on, "basketball school" really just means "bad at football."

So, that makes Tennessee purple blood status? Some red and some blue?

LOL. I think it's a silly think to argue something with subjective, unstated criteria.
It actually makes sense to argue about something with subjective, unstated criteria. Otherwise there'd be nothing to argue about.

Tennessee is right there with a few other schools (I'd put Penn St and UGA there too) who are just outside of that category. Those schools do not have the combo of all-time wins, winning %, championships (conference and national), All-Americans, Heisman winners, total weeks spent in the AP Poll, etc. that the Ohio States, Alabamas, Notre Dames, and Oklahomas of the world do.
