People will still call it Commonwealth Stadium. No biggie.

It's a business partner like they do in the NFL apparently. Is this the first time this has happened for a college stadium?

Louisville has Papa Johns Stadium
UCF has Brighthouse/ Spectrum Stadium
T Tech plays at Jones AT&T Stadium

Many arenas are named after corps.

How long before Nike tries to get Oregon to rename their field and put a swoosh at the 50?

What's the difference really between naming a field after a corporation vs naming it after a large donor?

It's not just the field, it's the stadium. It'd be like changing Neyland stadium to Costco stadium.

I get that. My point is, we didn't name things after Thompson, Boling, Shields, Watkins and Haslam merely because they're nice guys.

I hope UT never sells out like this.

I would think of it like this... Nobody cared when Candlestick Park became 3 Com Park or when Jack Murphy Stadium became Qualcomm Stadium but can you imagine the frogs that would rain down if there was any such re-branding of Wrigley or Fenway? Neyland is equally untouchable.

Wrigley was a case of corporate branding before anybody even knew what it was.

Well, not exactly. The change from Weeghman Field to Cubs Park to Wrigley Field was more of a reflection of chewing gum magnate William Wrigley's increased ownership and eventual complete control of the team's affairs from 1916-1932 than it was a case of corporate branding.

No one cares what Commonwealth Stadium is called but try to change the name of Rupp Arena! No one cares about their football stadium because no one REALLY cares about UK football, that is just s hard truth.
