I was going to say they should have gone with Kroger Field at Commonwealth Stadium but the field is already named after C.M. Newton.

Why not Kroger Commonwealth Stadium?

Should be Commonwealth Stadium sponsored by Kroger to stay consistent when they change sponsors. The Titans have devalued the name of their stadium by changing it so often IMO.

What's the difference really between naming a field after a corporation vs naming it after a large donor?

I was looking around to see how much the General donated to UT, but couldn't find anything. The name Neyland Stadium means a lot to me. Pilot or Haslam or Walmart stadium, not so much. I'm curious to see if UT follows up on this and how big their greed is if it happens.

Tennessee wouldn't allow the coaches to make commercial endorsements for a long time. I think it changed late in CJM's tenure. They all push First TN Bank now.

Just give the stadium a nickname like we did.

Who the hell wants to say Ben Hill Griffin-Steve Spurrier Stadium at Florida Field? It's The Swamp.

UK students should start a petition to rename it The Cathouse.

Should be the Litter Box. Way more fitting.

Louisville has Papa Johns Stadium
UCF has Brighthouse/ Spectrum Stadium
T Tech plays at Jones AT&T Stadium

Many arenas are named after corps.

Louisville also has the (KFC) Yummy Yummy Tummy Tummy (basketball) Arena.

Fast food, anybody???

Depends on the individual. Some sell out easy and don't have a problem with it. And some will call it corporate BS.

Naming it after a donor is done by choice. Naming it after a corporation is negotiated. You may not see the difference, others will. You know, those others who see Al-Jazerra as a worthless dung pile.

It's a win win, Kroger gets the marketing and the fans get free bags to put over their heads.

Their AD has said they won't mess with Rupp.

Rupp Arena is off campus and owned by the County council.

It's probably more of a food supply agreement than anything. Kroger being a grocer all the concession stands will be stocked by Kroger brand products. Not unlike Calhoun's and Neyland Stadium.

Yeah, sometimes it's a choice to honor someone for being a good guy, but often it's a payoff for a big donation. The field inside Neyland Stadium is a prime example.

I guess I don't see what is so unseemly about selling naming rights to corporations when we've effectively been doing that for individuals for decades.
