Kentucky's OC on Will Levis

I don't see how Scangarello is qualified to prepare anyone for anything other than failure.

Scangarello's record:

2017&2018: 49'ers QB coach. 6-10 and 4-12
2019: Broncos OC: 7-9 Fired
2020: Eagles "Senior Offensive Assistant" 4-11
2021: 49'ers QB Coach 10-7 BUT K. Shanahan disowned his responsibility, Jimmy G after the season.

I feel much better about playing Kentucky after reviewing their OC's record.

Everyone that "knows football" always says that spread offenses dont work in the NFL. And I've always wondered how true that is. I mean we've seen it at some schools be not so effective and we've seen it be very effective at other schools (obviously Heup's system with Hooker) most recently. So I wonder how true that is. I watched the Dolphins - Steelers game this Monday and man it was so boring and not only that but the last quarter was nothing but 2 downs of attempted runs up the middle, then a very obvious, and thus most times, ineffective pass attempt to a WR or TE then punt it away. The current offensive schemes in the NFL also seem ineffective. So wouldn't the spread in a least form (depending on personnel) even it were as a wrinkle or change of pace play, be worth trying?

Here‘s a stupid question, why even entertain a question like that?? Seems like he should be singularly focused on the task at hand, preparing his offense for this weeks COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME, not talking about how they’re preparing one single player for an NFL career 6+ months from now.

If they're trying to use the lure of NFL prep to pull in quarterback recruits, it makes sense to talk it up.

This is sort of a weird video. Kentucky's OC Rich Scangarello talks about how Will Levis will be better prepared for the NFL by running Kentucky's offense rather than a spread.

Just feels like he's clueless. He's not talking about playing to Levis' strengths. He wants to mindlessly plug him into a system that 'best prepares him for the NFL', except he's basically talking about outdated NFL offenses. Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow were "spread QBs" who are now 2 of the most successful NFL QBs. And Scangarello was fired from his NFL OC role after 1 season (at Denver).

I think Kentucky will treat this game as their Super Bowl and we should be prepared for a dog-fight. But I've got to say, Scangarello seems like a big downgrade from Kentucky's last OC, Liam Coen (now the LA Rams OC).

Kentucky's defense is another matter. They've played well all season and will be one of the best Ds we face all season (along with Georgia and LSU).

In any case, bring the Beer Barrel back and GBO!

I think you're correct.

I dont think we will win running away, its still a rivalry.

This team is playing too well on O in trenches. Jaylen and Ramel will get open. It will be 10 pts ish.

Kentucky game will mimic Pitt game. That's where I see them.

Except our offense and STs are much improved at this point in the season. Kentucky wont be able to hang.

He's Tom Landry (the game has passed him by) and he doesn't know it.... YET!

What am I missing? Why are people saying Hooker would be fired up about this. He didn’t take a shot at Hooker. He’s trying to promote his guy and he’s talking up his offense. I’m not seeing anything to be bothered about. He may be an idiot, but I don’t see anything bad here.

So basically he said you can't run the spread in the NFL which is a variation of what Tennessee runs. He also insinuated that Levis could read a defense, call pass protection etc. and that Hooker could not. Basically he passive-aggressively talked sh!t about Tennessees offense and QB all while sporting the number 12 offense in the conference

I listened again now that I am in a place I can hear better. I heard the reporter mention Tennessee’s stuff won’t work in the NFL. I just don’t see the OC taking any shots at Hooker as much as touting his offense. I don’t see the big deal, but I guess we get mad about everything. Also, this dude opened his mouth about Ole Mizz blitzing and OM made him llook like an idiot, so I don't care much about what he says.

Levis is so good they're going to go slow and limit the number of times he touches the ball. Interesting plan

Nobody ever tried that before ... LSU&FU gave up immediately and St. Nick tapped on that plan in a qtr & 1/2. We'll see how many 2 min TD drives this guy can stomach before deciding he'd better outscore us or get run over.

Once Levis and the Kentucky freshmen and sophomores enter the confines of Neyland Stadium on Saturday night they will be in the midst of an atmosphere like none they've ever experienced. They will be shaken to the bone.

KY defense hasn't face a WR corps like ours. I remember the Bama defense being #6 when we played them. Unfortunately for KY they don't have a Bryce Young at QB or a Gibbs coming out of the backfield. They can't match TD to TD with us. JH isn't afraid to run if they choose to play the pass. The great thing about his offense is it makes you commit to one or the other; zone defense isn't going to work.
