Kevin O'Neill Head Coach at USC

So now I'm confused...are we now saying Jerry Green was a good coach? I mean he took the Vols to 4 straight NCAA Tournaments with what O'Neil put on the table. If O'Neil was so horrible then Green has to be on Pearl's level.

I'm not a huge O'Neil fan but let's be honest, he inherited absolutely nothing. As hat said, he inherited a 5 win team, and if I remember correctly his first year he had about 6 players period who he could even work with. I remember people talking about possibly getting some football players to play on the team they were so strapped for players, at least fans were.

Saying KO had six legitimate D-I players his first year is being very charitable to a couple of guys.

I would have hit the SOB directly on his fake kneecaps with a tire iron without hesitation.

The kneecaps (patellae) are not fake with a total knee arthroplasty, only the joints are prostheses.:)

BTW, Tonya Harding might need your tire iron services.

Yeah...I guess it's more like he had 6 guys to put the uniforms on and were breathing. It's actually kind of amazing he got 11 wins out of them.

The patellae are provided by organ donors, correct?
No, only the ends of the bones (femur and tibia) that join at the knee are replaced. The kneecap and the tendons and ligaments are left in place.

Back to career loser (W 171-L 180) O'Neill, looks like USC is going to de-emphasize BB to try to appease the NCAA gods. With the Bush cloud hanging over the school, now the roundball scandal, they will be hit with some major sanctions. Only a journeyman looking for a quick paycheck would take the job. Reminds me of Devoe taking over the Florida job when Norm Sloan was forced out.

Pearl inherited a team that had won 5 games the previous year?

Nope - But Pearl did inherit a losing squad as well.
I'd take Pearl over O'Neill any day.
I am not a "Pearlophile" as you so aptly put it, but O'Neill has done nothing in his career to warrant the jobs he continues to get.

Its going to be quite humorous when the USC Football squad consistently outscores the USC Basketball squad.

I do NOT miss the days of the 40 point basketball games.
Actually, didn't Tenn and Penn St play to a 33-33 tie one year in regulation? Penn St won in Overtime.

IIRC, after he dismissed the discipline problems, the number might have been negative.
Hamer could play. With good knees, he'd have made a nice living setting on an NBA team's bench. That said, he was the only thing resembling a legit player KO inherited from Houston.

Steve is a great guy, he came over to our house one year for Thanksgiving. I haven't spoken with him in a few years but he used to work for my father. He tried to get me on UT's practice squad with Buzz after I left APSU but he got fired and it didn't work out.

Steve also wasn't the most motivated guy in the world and I believe his agent died after his first season with the Celtics and he just never found a new one.

I thought he went by Stevie?

That sounds right. I'm pretty sure I remember Hamer, like most of KO and Huggs' guys, being a Ron Grinker client.

That makes sense.

Steve played the 96-97 season and (I looked it up) Grinker died, in Cincinnati, in 1997.

Steve was a great guy and super, super nice. It just seemed he wasn't all that motivated (plus the knees).

Mike Wilbon was crushing this guy on PTI last week. Not sure what he has against him, but he CLEARLY does not like him at all. Said he would be a failure out there. He is definitely setup for failure.....many expect sanctions to be coming USC's way for the OJ Mayo debacle.

Wilbon hates anyone that doesn't win big with "his" teams. He's a Northwestern alum, so I'm not sure exactly what he expects. He always rides Tim Floyd whenever his name is brought up for his record with the Bulls as well.
