Who do you all think we should use returning kickoffs and punts this season? I think that Lucas Taylor is good but I'm not sure that D-Morely wouldn't be a better fit there. If Wade is so fast then why hasn't Fulmer looked at him to return kicks in the past couple of years?

I am really not too concerned with someone who can return it to midfield or better, just someone who can hold onto the ball would do.

Taylor should be the kick-returner bcuz even tho he fumbled a few times last year, he brought us out to the 50 a couple of times.

Hefney has to be the punt returner. I remember he had a couple of big returns toward the end of last season and almost broke one against Vanderbilt but was caught from behind.

We will choose out of the following options:

Punts: Hefney, Rodgers, Taylor, Morley
Kickoffs: Taylor, Rodgers, Hefney, Morley

In the spring those were the main participants. To answer you question about Wade, it is the same reason he got switched out of the WR position, no hands. He fumbles too much on returns. Taylor and Morley are best "big hit" return guys but have similar problems with fumbles. Hefney and Rodgers are the "safe bets" because they are able to hold onto the ball. Not to say those two cant hit the homerun, but I think they are slighly less dynamic than Taylor and Morley.

there is a reason he lost his job to a freshman. He did absolutly nothing most of the time making returns. Lucas made some freshman mistakes but he is the man for the job. If Morley is playing both ways some then they won't play him on special teams too

The punt returner and kickoff returner will be the ones that do the best job in practice. Until we actually have fall practice we won't know. It will be the best people.

I'd rather have a guy getting us to the 30 consistently than a guy who makes mistakes along with big returns. You need to have consistency before trying to establish the big play.

Just give me a guy who will secure the ball, find the wedge and "run it up in there".

I agree,we need someone that can hang on to the pigskin...we sure need someone to step it up weather it's Taylor or Morley!

Ugh. Terrible idea. I wouldn't even dare put such a bright star in the risky spot of starting at running back AND kick returner.

Reggie Bush was practically god-like at the college level. We all knew he was virtually untouchable by his junior year. Foster is a great young talent but the jury is still out. If he can go on to be like Bush, and be uttlery elusive to all SEC defenses, then go ahead and put him in such a position.

Do you think they will try Coker? I like Taylor for both, he has had some game exposure and hopefully the expierance will result in a more confident performance.

Heffney cannot return anything worth jack. He has fumble problems and has never produced a significant return against a decent team. He also did not improve at all from his freshman year to his sophomore year. You might remember he had a devastating fumble while attempting to field a punt against Florida in 2005. UT probably has the worst coached special teams in America. It's pathetic. I would say that most high schools are better coached on special teams. We never choose the right return man, make the right blocks, avoid clipping, or advance the ball. If I were Fulmer, I would instruct my guys never to return a kickoff, and simply accept a touchback. On punts, I'd put my best wide receiver back there and instruct him to fair catch it every single time. Honestly, I think we'd be better off this way.

Seems to me a DB would be better at returns if for no other reason that when they do get the ball on interceptions what they see is more like a return than a wide out. When WR's get the ball most are coming at them from behind or laterally....whereas a DB they see potential tacklers coming straight at em. :dunno:
