Kick Returners?

Yeah but they are trained to tackle first. We really need to invest some time in return specialists.

The way things have been going I would settle on someone who would not fumble and get us to the 10 yard line on kickoffs......... :banghead: What is 90 yards right?

Could you imagine the field position swing if it were possible to average around 8.0 yards a return? Scary.....

Do you think they will try Coker? I like Taylor for both, he has had some game exposure and hopefully the expierance will result in a more confident performance.

UT probably has the worst coached special teams in America. It's pathetic. I would say that most high schools are better coached on special teams.
Amen! Special teams at UT have not been good enough to suck the past several yrs.

VMJ, you are then saying we are at a sub-sucking level on special teams?

That's pretty intense.

That's exactly what I'm saying, and not just on returns but on kick coverage as well. Plenty of talent, no discipline. When we did get returns they were brought back because of blocks in the backs or holding penalties. And having a punter that can bust a 40 yrder with lots of hang time does you no good if defenders don't wrap up and make good tackles.

The punt returner and kickoff returner will be the ones that do the best job in practice. Until we actually have fall practice we won't know. It will be the best people.

Great, deep, insightful analysis ...

The Kick returners in the past were some of the fastest guys on the team like track athletes; Leonard Scott, Willie Gault, Roland James, etc.

Usually a young guy waiting to start gets an opportunity to play on special teams. Maybe Lucas. The only track athlete on the team I know of is Johnathon Wade. If UT had more depth at RB, Coker might get a chance to return kicks, he's probably faster then anybody on the team except for Meachum and Wade. I think rivals listed Coker as running a 4.5 or 4.4 40.
