Tressel's the greatest coach they had in modern memory. Boy, did their AD really botch this situation. Look at what Tressel was able to do with his talent! They're going to have to put the black curtains up around the upper deck for years because of this. Riding out the sanctions would have been worth it to keep him.

With the inquiry that has just started on Pryor, keeping Tressel would have simply been asking the NCAA to shut down tOSU's football program.

lol, no. Maybe a punishment similar to USC's, but nothing much worse than that. Plus, keep in mind we are talking about THE ohio state university, not some po-dunk school in Dallas, TX.
Emmert is no Myles Brand. Not only were tOSU's violations worse, IMO, than USCs, but Tressel's continued lying to the NCAA happened under Emmert's watch. I can see the NCAA coming down as harsh as is possible against both Tressel and tOSU.
This will be viewed as Emmert's first real test. He has no Big Ten affiliation, and has stated that he intends to clean up the game. The media circus surrounding Tressel and tOSU is so large, that this decision, and Emmert, will be in the spotlight.
