Kiff-Daddy at it again

In doing research for a book published in 2007 I discovered that prescription drugs, taken as prescribed, not abused, were the 4th leading cause of death in this country. Physicians have recently told me that it has risen to number 3.

I hate Kiffin as much as the next guy, but this is a stupid lawsuit. Toradol is a non-narcodic anti-inflammatory. Lawsuits like this are the reason our medical insurance is so high.

You might be out of your element here. You are right that it's not a narcotic, it's an NSAID. That doesn't mean that it doesn't have some serious potential side effects (don't give me the old all drugs have side effects thing, I know that better than most). It should only be taken for very short periods of time (5 days max) and has a much higher rate of serious adverse reactions than standard over the counter NSAIDs. It's no oxycodone but its also no aleve. You have to weigh the benefits and risks for each patient. More importantly you have to appropriately consent them on the risks.

The issue for the lawsuit was whether or not he was appropriately counseled on the risks of taking this drug and playing. The bigger issue at large is whether players who need this level of pain management should be given this sort of drug to keep them on the field. I'm pretty sure most non team doctors would at least question that last one.

I remember a sports broadcaster asking Phil years ago about injecting pain medications. Phil told him, "we don't do that at Tennessee." He seemed to be firmly standing on an ethical high ground in college athletics. The rest of the story is that he did expect his athletes to play with painful injuries. Some turned to the street for pain medications and suffered very negative consequences in their lives.

There have been many times when I thought the HC should sit an injured player and start the backup. With expectations being so high, that happens far fewer times than it should. jmho

first of all im not sure UT doesnt use this pain med, so it wouldnt be fair to toss stones at CLK.
Also how much is the head coach involved in the pain treatment of his players. Do the docs prescribe this or the HC's? My guess is the docs do. I mean i know in varsity blues the coach told them to inject the players

Please tell me that last sentence was just one of those one-in-a-trillion typos that just so happened to formulate a coherent, albeit moronic, thought.

I think he might be on to something. I'm pretty sure Bray regularly called the "oopty-oop" for CP.

Only if he spends like Vince Young at a Cheesecake Factory. You know he makes more in a year than most of us do in 10 years, right?

He makes more in a year than 75% of Americans will ever earn in their lives!! But, I bet he spends it, too.

Did not read the article but I've had first hand experience with that stuff and it's rough stuff.. Toradol is very hard on the body.. I have moderate to severe Degenerative Disc Disorder and have had C5-7 fused due this and cumulative football injuries..

Anyway, I have taken Toradol (by mouth) a few times and after the last time,, I will NEVER take that sh!t again.. The sheet for counter indications/side effects is about scary to read. You're NOT supposed to take the drug for more than 4 or 5 days in a row.. The last time I took it, three doses caused me to cramp so severely in quads, hammies, gluts and lower back I could hardly move...

Honestly, I would just about rather see them given narcotic pain meds.. I know they are addictive but they are considerably more effective in controlling pain and chemically they are NO WHERE NEAR as hard on the body as Toradol..
