Is there a link? How do you know that 3rd down penalty extending drives that Bama is tied for last in the conference?
I keep a database so I can write about the games without having to memorize everything. I import the official play-by-plays. This is obviously not an official stat, but I'm sure someone out in internet-land keeps track of similar items.
They don't that I can find. Because I would love to look at some of these penalty statistics.
You import play-by-play drive charts for every single team for every single game every single weekend? That must be some database if you have penalty extending 3rd down drives ranked by conference team ready at a moments notice. Who is first and how many do they have? In fact, what is the complete ranking and number of 3rd down penalties that extended drives for all 14 conference teams?
Basketball officiating is worse and easier to criticize purely because of the volume of calls. It's amazing to me how the best conference in sports can have such terrible officiating that never seems to improve. And I say this every year but as bad as the football officiating is, the basketball officiating is worse. Granted, there are technically no "SEC" officials in basketball but we see the same faces each year and the same idiots who never improve, and the SEC (and college basketball in general) does nothing about it. Same with football, nothing is ever done to make it better (at least that the public can see) and on top of that they are protected from almost all criticism and accountibility.

A big part of the reason officiating seems to be getting worse is that every single game is televised live, is in HD, and every questionable call is able to be dissected immediately on social media. There is a gigantic spotlight that exists now to shine on these calls that didn't exist before. There are certain teams that seem to get the benefit of the doubt more often than others on questionable calls, but most of the time the call is right.
Where do you import the drive charts from? Is there an accessible database website?
I'd say that's pretty low, but bound to eventually happen in a sport with 120+ teams and the volume of calls. The Cubs didn't win a WS for 108 years for the same reason - sheer odds; it has to happen to someone. One has to wonder if the majority of the calls are right what is the probability that the same team benefit from back-to-back wrong calls in consecutive weeks that directly affected the final score and allowed them to win.

The real inexcusable missed calls are the ones that are missed upon review, like you said earlier. They were kind of handcuffed on the Bo Nix backwards spike because of how it was ruled on the field, but there really isn't an excuse for missing the contact with the ball on the kickoff. I totally understand missing that live, but on replay the guy's pinkie finger clearly gets bent back by the ball as it passed by - how do you miss that when you can slow down the video and have a few minutes to look at it?
Not only that, but isn't it possible for the video guy to look at the ESPN replay on TV before he even buzzes the officials to look at it? I would hope that they do that if possible - get a quick initial look, then decide if you want to formally do the review. The returner immediately reacted as if the ball had hit him. It makes no sense to say "there's nothing there; no need to even review."
So you are saying Kiffin/Ole Miss should report the SEC to the Health Department?
Freedom of speech is not freedom of consequence.Exactly. Kiffin/Ole Miss should have all the right in the world to report the SEC to the Health Department. In all seriousness, it's just a joke that Kiffin is getting fined for freedom of speech and calling out someone for not doing their job properly. That's all there is to it at the end of the day

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech.
Kiffin should have the right to express his opinion... especially when the SEC (or any conference) admits they got wrong. That's on them... not usExactly.
