They gave up almost 600 yards to vacation town. I loved it. They are gonna get murdered this year. They had better talent and should have won 63-14. What a loser. Monte must be hitting scenile status with all that talent and giving up 36 points. Have fun boys lmao.

Monte must have been taking a nap on the sideline. After drinking those 2 cans of Ensure before the game it was all over. As soon as he hit that warm Hawaii air, he was out. Gotta keep those bones strong though!

I didn't watch any of it. Did they go with a vanilla defense, look terrible, or both?

i'd say both. they never really blitzed, but got zero pressure with their front 4 which is pretty damn pathetic against hawaii.

They looked bad... it was about the same thing that you saw from us when we played Ohio last year. But like the prev poster said, i think it had a lot to do with not going full speed in practice. The spread will give Monte some serious problems this year.

We straight dominated Ohio defensively last year. They got in the endzone only once because Crompton set them up with a pick. They passed the ball 50+ times in a game without Dennis Rogan and still couldn't do anything.

It was sad...the only game I was able to watch on AFN unfortunately......that game made me glad Monte isn't here anymore...USC's secondary looked horrible....and they could really use some tackling drills in practice

Thats not as bad as it sounds. Hawai'i has never run the pistol before and were obviously going to break it out against USC this year. It just so happened a Hawai'i television was filming and caught some practice of them running pistol.

USC got lucky more than anything that they had time to prepare for it (although it is not THAT much different, other than the back can go either way). It wasn't like Monte didn't prepare for Hawai'i like the article sounds and you assumed.

Just letting you know.

The defense was awful, but the offense looked really good. Barkley is a stud and don't kid yourselves, they are going to put up a TON of points this year. Question is once they get their whole defense in and acustomed to the terms and rules, can they stop anyone. Robey starting at CB let me know their talent on D isn't that good.

I cant stand them either. They will win 9-10 games however. I don't see anyone on their schedule that should or will (MURDER) them...GBO

you saw them give up 500 yards to a wac team and you don't think oregon, oregon state, cal, arizona, or stanford can do the same?

my point exactly. they have the talent to shut teams down occassionally but not consistently. they remind me of florida 07. lots of 1st round talent and their future looked good on d. but that year they ad about 5 games they shut ppl out and then the rest of the year they gave up a ton of points. but i am more suprised with monte looking this bad.

they'll improve on d rather significantly as long as they stay healthy which isn't a given at all. they aren't nearly as deep as that florida team.

Those "talented 5-stars" ran like fools on the field. No-pressure upfront + inexperience secondary = disaster in the making. Both DL and secondary played BAD last night. By the way, where are those 5-star MLB in that killer Tampa-2? Mr. Kennard? Mr. Galippo? I remember Kennard made a play or two, but what about Galippo, aka " Chris Donald for USC"? Except the fact Donald never played a down, but Galippo was on the field to miss the tackles all the time. Sad.

I'm probably the only one but:

1) I still like Kiffin - he's fun to watch and never boring. I'm glad he left but hope he does well.

2) I hated USC under Carroll but now I'm pulling for them to run the table this year.

3) I have doubts about Monte - his players were in schemes last night that just didn't fit what Hawaii was doing. Maybe it was the Pistol but for me the jury is out on Monte and the Spread.

Commence ye ole flaming

My only problem ith monte and the spread is he has no excuse. How can he be materfull against Fl who had the best spread in cfb but can't stop anybody elses spread. Monte against Fl was a fluke. If he faced 5 spread teams he gets ripped 4 times. How many Pac 10 teams run spread with wide open offenses? They will get trounced. And Barkely having 5 td means nothing. Kiffin knows how to inflate those numbers against lesser teams. Look how he made Crompton a 25 + td passer. 4 and 5 td in 4 games then mediocre the rest of the time. I see how he does it.
