Kiffin sucked last nite

I'm probably the only one but:

1) I still like Kiffin - he's fun to watch and never boring. I'm glad he left but hope he does well.

2) I hated USC under Carroll but now I'm pulling for them to run the table this year.

3) I have doubts about Monte - his players were in schemes last night that just didn't fit what Hawaii was doing. Maybe it was the Pistol but for me the jury is out on Monte and the Spread.

Commence ye ole flaming

Now I see how you can cheer for both Tennessee and Kentucky. Yuck.

stanford ran a pro style and destroyed carroll's tampa 2 d. i don't think it has anything to do with the spread. and really only oregon and arizona run the spread.

Some of you Monte supporters are killing me right now :eek:lol:

I don't want to hear squat about inexperience. USC is an elite program with elite players experienced or not. There is no excuse for HA to score 36 points or run up 600 yards on them. Wait until they play a real team. :lolabove:

Whether or not UT fans wanted to admit it or not but Monty sucked last year as D. He did good against plain offenses but sucked it up to others. It almost seemed like he was lazy against weaker foes but tried his heart out against top teams. Either way he sucks as a college coach. Might of been good for the NFL but not college. Get ready to be eaten alive if things don't change.

My only problem ith monte and the spread is he has no excuse. How can he be materfull against Fl who had the best spread in cfb but can't stop anybody elses spread. Monte against Fl was a fluke. If he faced 5 spread teams he gets ripped 4 times. How many Pac 10 teams run spread with wide open offenses? They will get trounced. And Barkely having 5 td means nothing. Kiffin knows how to inflate those numbers against lesser teams. Look how he made Crompton a 25 + td passer. 4 and 5 td in 4 games then mediocre the rest of the time. I see how he does it.

Could have something to do with Hawaii and Florida's offense being nothing alike. That's just a guess, though.

We dominated every offense we faced except Auburn until the injuries set in. We were 17th in the nation, defensively.

yeah. fl offense is way better and eats up way better defenses. usc always has talent and should never give up that many points to a wac team. i think monte has maybe peeked out. it happens ya know. also i think the team is not as pumped with having no post season as ppl may think. just imagine how bama or fl would play knowing their is no sec title or bcs game or any bowl.

Pretty big assumptions to make based on a game USC felt they had no chance of losing.

Florida runs the spread as well as any team in football and Monte's defense held them to one of their lowest outputs of the season in '09. Anybody who says he doesn't know how to stop a spread knows nothing about football.

When you're forced to start inexperienced freshmen and sophomores in the secondary as Monte did last night, you're going to struggle with teams that can put the ball in the air. In football, experience matters.

Just because Florida didn't blow us out of the water last year doesn't mean that monte can stop the spread..thats a ridiculous statement. especially when lame was playing just to keep it close. monte has yet to beat a team with a spread offense and he will continue to get exposed throughout the year.

When Monte has the personnel and experience, you'll see how great of a coordinator he is.

Allow me to quote one of my post from another thread...

If my memory serves me correct, the Vols had the SEC's leading defense in 08, a year prior to Monte's tenure; Yet while he was there you all dropped to 4th or 5th.

Perhaps he isn't as great as previously thought, or maybe the Tampa 2 didn't, doesn't, and won't translate over to the collegiate level. I have a sneaky suspicion that the spread offense of the Pac 10 are going to eat his defense alive.

Furthermore, if not for a Tim Tebow fumble on the goal line, Florida would've went up 30-3 late in the 3rd. Just saying...

The personnel? He's coaching USC, outside of Bama and Florida, they recruit better than everyone in the nation. They're stacked with talent.

Will you stick with this if he continues to underwhelm against the spread? Usually with data people throw away the outliers. For example since Monte has such a long and distinguished NFL career I am willing to throw away this end of career CFB experiment he is currently pursuing. His performance against HI should be forgotten like this mornings constitution. Not sure even Monte would appreciate you defending that nearly 600 yard pile of poo.

Probably not. Read Lane's comments after the game. Clearly no one was satisfied with the performance.

Not so much defending it as trying to provide an alternative explanation to the unproven "Monte sucks against the spread" argument. Clearly a team like USC shouldn't be giving up 600 yards to the likes of Hawaii, but they still got the most important thing, the W. So yes, after watching him do well against the best spread team in football last year at UT, I am writing this off as an outlier until I see how the defense performs the rest of the season.
