I think a lot of Lady Vol fans need to come to terms like a lot of us Vol football folks did several years ago that in the eyes of people around the country the Lady Vols program doesn't garner the prestige it once did in women's basketball circles.

Danny White was hired to change that in football and he hired Coach Heupel a unproven HC to jump into the SEC and so far he's done what he was hired to do and that's return Tennessee Football to a National stage.

You would be hard pressed to find a coach with the resume of Coach Caldwell. Now can she do that in the SEC? Like Coach Heupel we'll have to see.

The decline of the prestige of the WBB program is overstated. I don’t think DW needed to over pay for a good coach and obviously this proves that point. People did not know the names of a select few of the successful coaches in WBB at the start of this season. They had a good 2-3 year run and folks expect DW to give them 2-3 million a year when we basically was able to hire one of the best X’s and O’s coaches statistically nationwide in several of the categories TN has struggle in. This hire had nothing to do with a decline in prestige, it is the complete opposite this hire is all over social media because of the Lady Vol brand. It has receive more attention than the Miami, Virginia Tech, and Kentucky hires in a few hours on the biggest day of the season during the national championship game.

Danny White does not fire a former Lady Vol who went to two sweet 16's to hire a coach who's been in D1 for one year. NOT. HAPPENING. It's counter intuitive to everything we know to be true in how he sees the program.

This is an Internet discussion board. As such, I would think that questioning and discussing the events of the day is to be expected.

Skepticism and disappointment regarding an appointment is not the same as wishing it to fail.

As someone with no horse in the race, the elevation of Kim Caldwell appears to be a real reach with huge risk. It could well pay off, but she will be under immense pressure and scrutiny from the beginning, the likes of which, I suspect she has not faced before. She has extremely limited experience at the Division I level and none at the Power 5 level. By her own admission, recruiting is not a strength for her. And now she will be expected to improve upon her fired predecessor's record.

She will also need to hit the job running, both in order to minimize potential defections as well as to strengthen via the portal. Convincing players who have little idea who you are and are possibly being wooed by other programs without being in an established situation seems extremely difficult to me. She may certainly succeed, but there are a lot of ifs and a high level of uncertainty both for Caldwell and the program. Not something that one would expect when trying to turn a program around after more than a decade of perceived underperformance.

They interviewed. Elliot says he turned TN down. White says he left the interview feeling like Heupel was a better candidate, then (iirc based on an article) asked Plowman if he could interview Heupel and have her sit in on the interview to prove he's the guy.

Yes, we do. They are the marquee program for the LV brand - and they are more than capable of being one of the very few WBB programs to run in the black.

All they need is someone that can put a product on the floor that people will come out and watch - something Kellie was failing to do.
