Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Danny White probably had his budget and some NIL commitments from donors ready to go before he made the move, but the idea that he knew who he was going to hire or already had “everything in place” before he made the move is not in any way accurate.

I’m sure he had a list of five or six names that he wanted to target, interview, investigate further, all of that. But that takes time even if you know who those people are and are ready to speak to their agents. And those people certainly have the opportunity to go back to their current bosses and get a raise off of it.
I guarantee he reached out to prospects agents the day we lost to NC State if not earlier…

I didn't say that she wouldn't do well recruiting, just that I've been told she may not want to deal with it. And I wouldn't blame her because with NIL, the transfer portal, etc. it's become quite nightmarish. And the person that told me is a close friend who has followed recruiting and WBB since the 90s and has ties to AAU.

I like Becky very much and would be very happy if she came here. She is #1 on my list, as a matter of fact. My only question is: would she want to come? My answer is: I hope so.

I was reading about Hammon on Wikipedia: I had no idea that she is half Russian. Not only that, but she became a naturalized Russian citizen in 2008. She also played BB for the Russian national team in 2 Olympics.

Hammon has no college coaching experience of any kind, so running a college program and dealing with all the recruiting nonsense and transfer madness would be a huge adjustment for her--as it is for even the most experienced college coaches. Given her long history in the pro game, it's hard to see her opting to make the leap to college.

And here's another reason why she is likely to stick with the pros: I suspect she's got her eyes on becoming the first female coach of an NBA team, and I could certainly see a franchise hiring her---possibly San Antonio after Popovich retires, which is sure to be soon. He's 75. She has deep ties to San Antonio--was a player for that city's WNBA team for 7/8 years and then was an assistant with Popovich and the Spurs for 7/8 years. The latter is the BB coaching equivalent of the law grad who clerks for a Supreme Court justice. You can't do any better than learning from Popovich. Also, Popovich is a progressive guy--and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he recommended her to ownership as his successor. I think he'd love to see her coach the Spurs. I don't know how long she could keep a head NBA job--most head coaches get sacked after a few years--but I can certainy foresee SA or another team hiring her in the very near future. Mark it!

I find this interesting… USC dropping DIMES to get a Men’s Coach while simultaneously losing so much money in football NIL for subpar results…

Idk if USC admin will be willing to pay Gotlieb her worth…

I admittedly do not know much about WBB coaches as I just follow LV’s.

I just have one question for those of you in the know, how pizzed are you gonna be when Ole Miss’s coach is named our coach? Cause it’s coming.

The entertainment value will be spectacular, although we'll need about ten extra sideline chairs on each end to separate QH from the players.

What makes you say this? If we hired the Ole Miss coach, it would be bizarre--a complete and utter head-scratcher. She's not accomplished very much at all compared to numerous other coaches in the game. Underwhelming, to put it politely.

Uhm she actually coached basketball, but ok. But while you're here, but I've been seeing this Gruden thing and I don't understand. Can you give me the cliffnotes version of why his name is even in the mix? Is it an inside joke?
Yes, inside joke relating to Gruden being at the top of the list to hire every time the football HC job was open which has been a lot lately.

Way too rational!

Coach Yo's record is a little better than that. she took a moribund program and now has it finishing 3rd in the SEC. But not getting to the S16 this season, after doing so last year, makes her an unlikely prospect. She would need to have at least an elite 8 on her record (I would think) to be a legit candidate.
Worse still, her win % at Ole Miss is lower than Kellie's. Despite starting with a lesser team, that still makes for a hard sell.

She would a big bet "on the future" hire and its hard to see DW firing Kellie to make that kind of risky move.

IMHO, I will politely say that I think not one candidate from this thread will sign a contract with TN WCBB. This discussion has been entertaining, but the TN faithful should be ready to support an up and comer coach. The women's basketball program could be in the wilderness for a few years, despite facilities/resources. UConn will be in the same situation when Geno/CD retire in the very near future. (Probably < 5 years) However, I could see Carla Berube (Princeton) there.

The reason I said Ole Miss coach is I keep seeing her name come up and experience tells me it won’t be any of the big names being thrown around.

But let me be clear I have absolutely no idea who it will be. Just think majority on here will be underwhelmed.

For me the coach hire will tell me what I need to know, if it’s an up and comer we will not win for a very long time. So my expectations will be very low going forward, but I’ll watch as I always do but I’ll know who we are.

People talking about luring coaches out of retirement must either hate McGraw or think there's no way she'd consider.

Most qualified coach not currently employed in coaching. Two NC, 9 FF, National COY x 4, you name it. The bane of Auriemma and thorn in CONN 's side.

Would need a young hotshot sidekick like Ivey and maybe was already losing her mojo when she retired, but she had the goods as recently as 2018.
I love me some Muffet McGraw, but 68 might be too old? I don't know. Some people age better than others. Haven't seen her out and about, but I'd be down with McGraw.
