To be fair to Walz, he literally took his team to a FF in 2022 where they played the defending champs in SC. He also made the E8 last year.

This season for him definitely felt like a decline in the regular season and NCAAs.

I mean, from 2017 until last season he had Louisville in the elite 8 or final four, which our last elite 8 was 2016? Could be much worse imo. He didn't even have a bad year, got caught by a buzz saw MTSU team. Am i selling myself on this potential hire??? lol

A well paid winning coach could upgrade, NIL, and win their way out of decline on Rocky Top. Like Angel Reese says,” get your money up lol.” The check done cleared!
This is ridiculous at this point the fake and played up drama from a few in the fanbase now is comical at best. All I’m waiting for at this point is the announcement. I trust my sources. The designated hitter DW for a grand slam is a done deal!

I don't know. I think that Walz is still an excellent Xs and Os coach. Louisville's problems appear to be based more on his attitude towards player empowerment. His comments regarding taking away players' NIL money for turnovers provided some insight into why players may be bailing on his program. Old school attitudes, abrasiveness, and reliance on negative reinforcement are not the way to get or keep elite players in the brave new world of college sports.

They have very similar backgrounds, similar success, similar age. Both have been at their respective schools for a bit more than 20 years. That's a long time at one place. They are both making big salaries now.

I agree with a lot of this. Personally I’m looking forward to a radical change in pace, in pressure, everything. Sometimes it feels like we’ve been watching the same offense and defense for 40-50 years. Just seems stale in addition to not getting where you wanna go.

So! I’m ready. I don’t care who they get. Make it exciting, make it fun because it doesn’t feel like it’s been that in quite a while.

I’m not saying I want him here but during their press conference after they loss his players while in tears said they will be back because of him to redeem themselves next year, players don’t say that about a coach they don’t like.

As for Brenda Frese, as a supporter of the Terps, I can safely say that with the right backing she can compete with the best in women's basketball (likely just a notch below Staley, Auriemma, and Mulkey). She is definitely old school, doesn't believe in coddling players, and won't play players she doesn't rate (at all). That said, if she is given the resources to attract elite players (i.e. significant NIL $) she will have Tennessee competing for Final Fours on a semiregular basis.

On paper, she may be less than what we want, but I trust White, if goes that route. It means he vetted her to the center of the earth. Remember that he hired unknown assistant Nate Oats at Buffalo. When Hurley left, DW interviewed everyone Oats had ever coached and talked to the players at Buffalo. He hired him saying he was a better coach than any of the experienced candidates. He was heavily criticized. Right now, we are negotiating with a top tier candidate to try to make it work. If that fails, and White hires Kara, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Just me but I'd still rather have Scott Rueck or Kevin McGuff than Jeff Walz.. I realize Walz is the only one who's been to the final four, etc but I still like the others better. Walz has some baggage.

Brenda F would be below all those on my list. JMO but in her current state, she doesn't feel like a huge upgrade over Kellie to me. Same for Kara.

Flame away, but I think I'd rather gamble on a super smart, super energetic up and comer than Walz, Freese, or Lawson.
