you sure you aren't thinking about second and third? youth and young manhood was underwhelming at best.

aha shake heartbreak and because of the times are epic. only by the night and come around sundown are good at best.

Bad.

Buy Aha Shake Heartbreak and maybe Because of the Times, outside of that just forget about them. Disgraceful and obvious sellout.

Any rock band with an original sound who gets radio play will invariably be labeled a "sellout" by somebody, somewhere. Don't hear a lot of "disgraceful" though. Cheers!

But rarely by everyone, everywhere. It really is pathetic.

Eh, KOL had potential, now they're just giant douchebags that write top 40 pop. Was very disappointing.

I saw the documentary on Showtime a couple of nights ago and thought they acted like douchebags. Seems like they sold out big time after hearing their earlier releases. This is all jmo, of course.

"selling out" is a subjective term. I used to think KOL was a promising rock band that had a great sound. Youth and Aha Shake Heartbreak still make my regular rotation. But they started branching out on because of the times and it has evolved to the latest stuff. I don't really like the new stuff starting at Because of the times but I can't fault a band for wanting to try something else. Their first two albums and because of the times were produced by a guy named Ethan Johns. He is a big part of crafting their early sound. Again, I don't like the new stuff but I can't fault them for trying it their way. It just so happened that their new music appealed to a whole different audience. So did they sell out? Maybe, but they don't owe me or anyone else anything and can certainly reap the benefits of their efforts. And from what I've read about the documentary, it seems that they've grown tired of those benefits. Sometimes being a somewhat obscure rock and roll band is more enjoyable than being a mega pop/rock sensation.

i don't care for their music nor do i tfault them or think they did sell out, but it is funny to view old pictures of them, where they look like skynyrd went to the thrift store, and then view their newer ones, where they look fresh from the salon and just home from urban outfitters.

i like the version of california waiting off the ep better anyway. the ep actually only has one song that youth doesn't have.

They will be the next Oasis, the lead singer is a drunk. I think he has gone to rehab.
