Kirby was correct about bad officiating precedent

I agree that it will be very difficult to get a win in Athens but Georgia does have to play at Ole Miss the week before so they won’t have the luxury of just zeroing in on our game like in recent years.

Georgia having a tough schedule for once helps us. Kirby cited that he was prepping for Tennessee all the way back in 2022. Kudos to him for knowing that 2022 Tennessee had something and was a threat before even we figured that out.

That being said, with the way Georgia beat up Texas' offensive line, we could be in for a tough matchup unless our o-line really steps it up. The funny thing is that I think Tennessee will have the best defense that Georgia has seen all year.

My suggestion, each coach gets 1 challenge per half regarding ANY penalties. If you win you keep your challenge. Each game should be reviewed by the conference and if certain officials or crews have a certain amount of blown calls (like 6 or more in a 3 game span) they are suspended 2 games without pay, then terminated if you are suspended multiple times in the same season. Its getting out of control and it makes zero sense since we have the technology to get it right in the matter of a few seconds. Its criminal that penalties are not reviewable. Its time all sports are transparent with officiating and hold employees to a higher standard. This might be the only profession in the world where it's OK to be bad at your job and you face zero accountability for your mistakes or one sided favoritism.

Yes. If you let the mob win once, then every fanbase will smell blood in the water and do the same thing from now on.

The original call was terrible, but to let the mob intimidate the crew into a reversal is even worse.
Agreed.

Give them a whiff of grapeshot. Have to hit the fake UT where it hurts.

Conference needs to step in to keep the Texas ostrich boot crowd in line with a significant fine, any other legacy SEC program would have had an unsportsmanlike penalty in game and a solid six figure fine before 9:00 a.m. today Austin time.

Texas has single handedly destroyed 2 previous conferences and those affiliations, the SEC doesn't need the Texas arrogance anywhere near the level they want and need our structure, configurations, atmosphere, bowl affiliations, television and conference revenue share, conference needs to show them what the consequences are for such conduct, shut that sideshow down now, not later.

In the Big 12, Texas had one big regular season game that attracted the national media, the SEC has national media, coverage and exposure every week in all sports,

Not to mention the cake arse schedule they got handed. Georgia is the only upper echelon team they had thrown at them, most everybody else got 2 or 3 really tough conference games at least. I was concerned Texas might come in and buy up a bunch of influence with the SEC office and it seems it might be happening.

They Play the EXACT same SEC schedule that we do except they play A&M and we got Bama. Otherwise, its completely identical

You are allowing your personal dislike for Kirby to cloud your judgment on a call that breaks with sportsmanship and precedent. Picture this scenario going down in Tuscaloosa with us as the visiting team and their crowd going ape crazy and then awarding Bama the ball inside our 10 after reversing a PI call. No matter how bad the call may have been, the reversal shouldn't have happened.

The precedent that it sets could have long term consequences if this isn't addressed. Leave it to SEC officials to screw things up. Will raucous crowds cause them to reverse holding penalties at crucial times late in a game? Moreover, are we now going to allow home crowds to influence officials' calls during the course of a game?

While that may be true Tennessee would have been the recipient of it all regardless of what may or may not have happened. The golden children are never ever wrong.

I expect us to get jobbed by the refs in Athens. We”ll have to beat Georgia and the crows and the zebras
Actually, if the Conference is "jobbing," it would be to guarantee that at least 4 SEC teams make the 12-team playoff. If that's the case, from what I see in the polls, we should expect "assistance" getting a win or an "impressive loss" in Athens.

(...if we can get there without another loss.)

From the SEC's official statement:

"The game officials gathered to discuss the play, which is permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced, at which time the calling official reported that he erred, and a foul should not have been called for defensive pass interference. Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball at the Texas 9 yard line. While the original evaluation and assessment of the penalty was not properly executed, it is unacceptable to have debris thrown on the field at any time."

So the guy who dropped the flag and then reported to the Ref what the penalty was which was announced over the stadium PA suddenly had a change of heart and realized he blew the call. Sure

Not only is this a feeble excuse coming from the SEC office, but it also doesn't even include a penalty fine for the stoppage of play and egregious unsportsmanship that can be observed on film. If schools pay fines for removal of goalpost celebrations, Texas sure needs to pay a healthy fine for littering a field over a penalty call.

Honestly, our odds to win there are probably low. As a fan, approach it like we are going to lose and hope for the best. The one positive is that all the pressure could be on Georgia to win. We have a team that can win but it is going to be a very hard one to win.

That’s what makes the win last night so huge (aside from it being Bama). Even if we drop Georgia (not conceding here, just throwing it out there), we can get in at 10-2. Just HAVE to win the games that we’re supposed to.

Did the officials even review the call on replay? I don't think they did.

And they are a much better team than they were at the beginning of the year imo

Yep. They were shell shocked against Miami and in typical fashion, found their stride against us. Luckily we were able to pull it out.

I don't give a damn what that douche says. Correct call ended up getting called. All Smart does is whine. All game every game.
At least one person here values truth. Authority or mob rule should not prevail over truth.
