Kitchen Remodel Questions and Tips

I had a guy come yesterday come quote work for me to get started on my kitchen. Any cabinet place in middle TN you would recommend?
No idea. I'm in Charlotte. We went to a bunch of surplus warehouses around the area until we found some that met our specifications. You can get them about half price of what you would normally pay for them through Lowe's or HD, and still cheaper than what a contractor would charge.

Pot fillers over the range seem to be hot right now. Also counter depth fridges. And soft close on the drawers. And you can never have too many outlets.

I’m in Asheville, and our Cabinet Guy is in Black Mountain. 1632860035260.gif

Again, consider checking out an independent cabinetmaker in your area. It can be a lot quicker, better quality, and a much better deal. Obviously, YMMV.

Edit: sorry, this was for @FïreBall

As far as the sink, don't know anything about the brands, but I will say I thought I would absolutely hate the one-bowl sink and I was dead wrong. I never want to go back to a two-bowl.
Please explain. To me the one bowl makes very little sense.
Of course we still do pots and pans in the two bowl sink. Suds in one, rinse in the other.
I see no advantage to the single other than appearance.

1. Washing a young Labrador retriever
2. Room for a ton of dishes, pots, and pans.

I suppose they don’t make sense for people who exclusively hand wash everything. We do about 50/50 DW/hand wash (mainly dishes, glasses, cups, utensils for DW, hand wash the heavy and huge stuff.)

The guy I talked with yesterday is going to send me some independents to contact. Lowes rendered me a kitchen a couple of years ago... I got a good example to show them what I want.

One of the best parts for us is that we were remodeling a smallish 97-year-old kitchen. Even though it was gutted first, there can be some peculiar dimensions involved that the usual increments of 6” width or even 3” wouldn’t have fit.

Good luck whichever way you go! And be patient. Construction supply chains are a mess now. We ordered a French door on September 5, to be picked up today. Order status is still “preparing order.” 🙄

Of course, we ordered a new car on July 7, and supposedly they started building it today. 🤞🏻

You have more room when you have just a huge bowl without the divider.

I rinse off small items with water/brush. Those go straight into the dishwasher. One bowl provides more room to wash pots/pans/big stuff/stuff that can't go in the dishwasher, and I use one of those scrub brushes that you put dish soap in the handle of and soap comes out when you press the button (if you have one of those brushes, it kind of eliminates the need to fill one side of the sink with suds as well).

I agree with @VolNExile that if you hand wash everything, you need a bowl filled with water/soap, so one large sink probably doesn't make sense.

I stated we hand wash pots and pans. Not everything.
Never cared for those brushes with the soap in them.
Hey different strokes for different folks.

If you've tried only the cheapies, I can see why you don't care for them. The only one I'll use is the one OXO makes. All of the others are cheap and useless for getting the food off, even worse than just using a washcloth or scrub ball.

When I remodeled my kitchen I put in a warming drawer under the oven. To me, it was well worth the investment!!

It got bigger!

What’s the semi-realistic-supply-chain-Putin (why not) time estimate for completion?

I think our contractor will mostly be done in 2.5 weeks or so. We are going to paint and my father-in-law is going to do subway tile and also wrap some wood beams (not pictured/behind camera running from den to kitchen).

Also, the contractor will have to come back mid-April and install the microwave when it finally ships (like you say, sourcing is crazy right now). We almost had problems with the farmhouse sink, which delays there will delay the countertop order, etc., but looks like the sink will be here in 2 days. Cross your fingers. Everything else is here in my garage.

I was pulling my hair out when we did our kitchen 3-some years ago, pre-Covid. Cooked out of a microwave and crockpot for months. I would lose my freaking mind now.

Can’t wait to see the final pics!

When we did ours a couple of months ago, our cabinets were supposed to be ready in 2 weeks. Turned out to be 6 weeks.

They told us 6 weeks and it was right on. Our contractor was the problem. We waited 3 months for him to start, and long story short, when it was time to start, he said something that made us totally question his commitment and fired him.
