Knecht traded to the Hornets

Wow. The Lakers had been so highly praised for getting him with the 18th pick .... I'm not surprised. His minutes had been going down. He was somewhat inconsistent. I understand moving him, but still feel like the Lakers are making a mistake here.

Wonder why they didn’t trade bronny? Until they get rid of lbj they’re not going anywhere anyway. The flopping and crying that’ll be happening now between him and Luka is going to only make for a more insufferable experience.

It was last week, so I got what I paid for. I just would have been happy to pay less for the same. ;)

Of course, with the trade news, I am already looking at taking the whole family in for the Saturday of Spring Break when the oldest is back from Chapel Hill.

Short drive to the Charlotte light rail, train in, dinner and ballgame for 5 for under $200? Cheaper than a Saturday Tennessee baseball game for the family! (But not nearly as fun.) The kid is still gonna have to wear his Lakers Knecht jersey, though, I am not buying a new one when the old one has only been worn once!
lol shows how much I keep up with the NBA didn't realize they already played!!

His money will go a lot further in Charlotte, so there's that at least.
And he is much more likely to get some Tennessee fans support in Charlotte. Gets to be around Grant Williams, too. It's a nice landing spot for Vol fans who can now support two former Vols on the same team, though Grant is out for the season.

After Dalton survived the Luka trade thought the Lakers were invested in his future. At least hopefully will get a lot more minutes and experience.

Will always have his 37 pt game where he scored 20+ straight points

I had mentioned earlier this week in another thread it was inevitable if they traded for a center DK had to go it was a numbers thing. Because of the apron, blah blah they would have to combine his salary with another player. In this case Knecht is the asset they added up his salary with that of Reddish to make the numbers work. It was either DK or Bronny.. they are the only two whose salary would fit.

Him going to Charlotte is a curse and maybe a blessing? that team has so many injuries all the darn time to their wings. This might mean lots of PT for DK since they are in full tank mode. Miller is out for the season and Melo stays hurt every few days. He should get starting minutes for the rest of the season the only healthy starters they have for rest of the season right now are Miles Bridges and Melo and calling Melo healthy is a stretch.

The Hornets don't have a single person over 6'9 on their roster right now. Cam Reddish is like the third-biggest healthy guy on their roster.

Yeah, I don't see this working out for the Lakers offensively. DK, D'Angelo Russell, and Max Christie gave them barely enough depth off the bench to win games.
Now, they have a strong starting 5 and practically no bench production.

It's better for him to get reps on a team with no championship pressure and get away from the 2nd largest media market in the country. Has time to develop and get a huge 2nd contract somewhere instead being under scrutiny like he was in LA.
This is true but.. He looked so good in the purple and gold. Teal can't be good for his (or anyone's) complexion or health.

Yes, but half those games will be in North Carolina, now, instead of California. And in terms of buying power, that money goes a lot further in NC than in LA.
I wasn't arguing against that it will be cheaper. I was just pointing out some info I had about how professional athletes are taxed. There's some great YouTube vids on the subject by former athletes talking about
"the athlete tax."

They praised and hyped Dalton for all of a month and then seemingly cut bait on him. Remember Redick talking about plays and actions and how excited he was for it? Funny how you can go from Lebron talking about Knecht being a steal, and the Lakers media fawning over him, to now flat cutting him with no comment. I checked the Lakers subreddit, and they're all mostly crowing about getting a better player and piping up about Knecht was a one-hit wonder who they wouldn't miss. No defense, slowing down, out of shape, etc. That's pro sports for you. Fickle and transient.

It also became clear somewhere in the last month that JJ Redick had grown frustrated with Knecht and probably didn't want to deal with him anymore. A lot more angry expressions and yelling at him, as opposed to earlier in the year.

I said before all of this that I hoped Knecht had kept a list of all the teams who passed on him. Hope he adds LA to that list.

Ugh. What a gut punch. Not just to be traded away from the Lakers but to go to a dark pit of obscurity. Yet another reason to hate the lakers

Good news he don’t have to live in LA or play with Lebron.

I agree with you but now with most NBA teams run 5 out offense and shoot 50 3pointers a game not sure a big is as important as they used to be. By the way I hate all the 3 point attempts

I just spent $275 on tickets for my bride and one of my boys to go to the Lakers game at Charlotte because he wanted to watch Knecht play.

If I had waited a week, I could have spent $100 to take the entire family to watch Dalton play Minnesota. 🤣

Oh well, my son got to see LeBron, who is one of the all-time greats, and AD put up 40, so he got to see a show.
I’m a Jordan over LeBron guy myself and don’t really care for LeBron but LeBron is a generational athlete and, at worst, a top 3 player all time. Like the guy or not, he’s unbelievable and worth a trip to see play. I respect what he’s done and I think when he finally hangs it up most will say he’s the best ever.

I am a Lakers fan and don’t like the move. Mark Williams has barely played a season’s worth of games in 2.5 years. There’s now no shooting off the bench. Needed a center badly, but this was too much for an injury-prone guy.

I do wonder if they had made this trade before the Luka deal if they could have gotten Williams for less, but I suppose they didn’t know if they were going to have to send Knecht to Dallas until they got the Luka deal done. I guess next year he can play with Grant potentially, and they aren’t far from Knoxville, so some Vol fans can make the trip to see them.
