Kristi Noem (R) Gov. S. Dak

At 14 months a hunting dog should be past that and if it’s going off scent at 14 months it’ll never make a hunting dog. Plus it attacked the neighbors chickens.
Then you move it indoors as a pet or put it up for adoption. Don’t punish a dog for acting like a dog

Read the excerpt again, she hadn't trained the dog at all it seems.

Taking it in the hunt was her first attempt to "begin to teach her how to behave", and the reason it was able to kill a chicken, is because she didn't secure the dog in her vehicle.

Good luck trying to normalize shooting dogs because you're too lazy and incompetent of an owner to train them.

I read the entire article and the dog had been trained and wasn’t taking to it.

S
Saddle-back German Shepherd. Silver instead of brown. SOB could kill a coon in a single bite.

I had the same, my big male . He preferred armadillos , I don’t know what they did to him but he put a dent in their population around the house . lol

That is not how working dogs are handled. I don’t like it anymore than you but thats the way it is.
It's how some working dogs are handled.

They do tend to be high-maintenance as pets. It takes a special kind of owner who has the time and patience to invest in the dog.

I remember spending time on my grandparents ranch in my Wyoming and taking a sawed off shotgun to the throat of our pigs at the slaughter house. Bloody mess.

Some of y’all are living in a bubble. Enjoy your meats while you bitch about this.

Are you seriously comparing the killing of an animal bred for meat production with the killing of a young canine?

Pretty common for hunters to kill dogs that won’t work. Pretty common to kill dogs that harm livestock. Only morons will make a big deal out of this.
It's pretty common for such dogs to be placed in good homes with owners who have the resources to provide for them as pets. At the very least, such an effort should be the first course of action before blowing the brains out of an 18 month old dog.

What I’m getting at it people are oblivious to the ways a lot.. a lot.. of animals we consume are killed.

Have you ever spent time with cows?
I'm sure the methods are quite gruesome .... and yet it's not the same thing as killing an animal who is also viable as a household pet. It doesn't seem like Kristi Noem made any effort to find her dog a suitable owner. And just to be clear, I am aware that not all working-bred dogs are safe to keep as pets. Some of them do have to be put down ..... I'm just saying that should never be the first option taken.

And norms change. America's no long in the time of Little House on the Prairie. There are other options available.
