‘23 KY CB Cristian Conyer (Tennessee transfer)

@WillAtSpyre mentioned that last week.
Wow! That’s really disappointing. I sincerely thought this fan base was better than that. We have a golden opportunity as fans to put our Vols back on the map. I honestly cannot believe it’s that low. Surely that’ll pick up. Hopefully some big money donors are involved too.

They definitely need to advertise better. Most of your everyday fans have no idea what spyre is.

I know their not advertising well, but here are the thoughts of Vol fans on Spyre...
How many of us have donated to Spyre?

I read that thread. I commented in it. To each their own and some arguments against it were understandable, but none of them trump the fact that we can literally donate to recruiting now. It’s a no brainer to me. 2 less trips to your favorite fast food restaurant a month could help bring Vol football back and bring way more joy to your life than a dang value meal. Or less. Hell just donate $1 a month if that’s all you wanna do, but do something.

To me, if you’re paying Callahan to say nothing or paying the VQ crew to say stuff that’s literally posted here and on Twitter minutes after they say it, then you can pay Spyre.

Fit
Conyer told us prior to his public announcement that Willie Martinez continues to deliver with getting DBs to the league, and that was vital in his decision. Well, Conyer has an extremely high ceiling that Martinez should enjoy working with in Knoxville. He is a long, physical cornerback with naturally fluid hips that can excel in press coverage situations. He has a natural nose for the football, and his time as a wide receiver in high school has helped him develop solid ball skills. He will likely line up on the outside for the majority of his career at Tennessee, but he is versatile enough to line up as a nickel and be effective. He will get early opportunities once arriving in Knoxville.

Impact Rating: 9.5 of 10
Beating out an SEC rival is always big on the recruiting trail, but when it is for the top guy on the board at a specific position, it cannot be understated. Conyer is a big recruiting victory for Tennessee. Kentucky did everything they could to keep the top in-state prospect home, but in the end, the NFL development at Tennessee was too much to pass on for Conyer. Credit Willie Martinez for having built such a strong relationship in this one to allow the Vols to win out in the end.

Man I gotta say I've been very impressed with what Marinez has been able to do.Im not the only one who had reservations about this hire but he's killed it and deserves every bit of the credit.

F Keaton wade

I said it last year and I still stand by it. The Wade twins going to UK was not a big loss for Vols. UK acted like they won some big recruiting war, but twins were not near the top of Vols board. Conyers was a must get for UK. Conyers is a big loss for them and their fan base

As we've witnessed first hand its never a good thing to lose the top recruit in your state on top of being your #1 want at Cb.Damn good win for Martinez Kentucky is consistently top 10 defensively each year.

They were 26th last year in total defense
They were 45th in 2020 in total defense
They were 21st in 2019 in total defense
They were 23rd in 2018 in total defense
They were 91st in 2017 in total defense
Not sure about Kentucky being top 10 consistently

Yea I thought that seemed way off man this is total defense per game not just individual.I don't just post factless dribble like some.My post may be super long so it goes unnoticed but check my stats as they say.Screenshot_20220704-005715_Samsung Internet.jpg
