KY - Stanford

some were ready to fire Bruce Pearl, who is a good coach and a great recruiter. How many MENS national championships does UT have? I am real with it.....UK will NEVER have the football history or teams UT has, same goes for basketball, UT will not be historically as good as UK. We beat UT....big deal...UT beats UK and it makes your season.

haha...beating UK does not make our season. We might not have as many national championships as UK has but we are no longer a door mat either.

They "should" be better but they "should" have won this game easily too so "should" gets you a whole lot of nowhere. I don't see how you say UT is as good as they will get when that's not true. Do you believe a player reaches or team for that matter reaches their maximum level of potential as soon as practice starts their SR year? Melvin Goins is a JUCO and Tatum plays a more significant role than last year. The team obviously plays better defense and freethrows are 50 X better. Without Wall, UK is average at best. But they 'should' be better come March.

and a freshman laden team does?
you must admit, alot of UT fans were over the top after a 1 point loss to #6 team. I thought they sounded like some UK fans

no. I never said Kentucky wouldn't get better. But they are indeed overrated. Do you think they play like a top 5 team right now? Didn't think so. And yes. I do agree that a lot of UT fans sounded like Kentucky fans when we lost to the 6th ranked team in the country. But I think they were bickering at shot selection more than the whole "sky is falling, give up on the season" scenario.

I think UK is probably a # 12-15 team now. UT should be the favorite to win conference. "IF" is a big word, but with the talent UK has, "if" it jells just right, they could win the NCAA Championship.
John Wall is a freak man, he is a lottery pick with 0 doubts

That is an utterly awful half by Kentucky. If they were playing a remotely competent opponent tonight, they'd be down 20.

This.

KY struggling with Stanford right now. Looks like Calipari is right about the no D issue.

And this.

Nothing else matters. We can't guard anyone. I literally mean, NO ONE. Ramon Harris played great D, by my God he can't cover 5 people.

Demarcus Cousins, as beastly as he is, sometimes makes plays that would cause Corky to scratch his head.

Its a long season, and this team will be good. Just not now. We have losses coming soon.

How many points did Stanford score in the 2nd half and overtime combined?

33. One more than the first half.

However, to strictly rely on numbers for this game is a little misleading, IMO. Stanford played a controlled clock game, and ran the shot clock down below 10 almost 90%of the time. There were stretches where the D was good, but some horrible breakdowns on pick n rolls, and screens.

Also, just lots of standing and passing in the offense. We worked it down low pretty well, but the peremiter play was stagnant at times.

I watched most of the game. My point is that it's not like Stanford was shooting layups all night.

Also, we are overated. No way around it.

You and McCat seem to be sensible, realistic fans, obviously the minority in Kentucky. UK will be fine; I'm just not sure this year's team is a realistic championship contender, but Cal will definitely put out a better product than BCG was putting out up there.

I might even go with the word "has" instead. lol

As for the sensible part, it is my curse. Sometimes I would rather be a blundering idiot wearing blue goggles unaware of the world that exists other than UK basketball, running around screaming we will be undefeated this year. But, oh well.

That being said however, there is nothing like the big blue nation as a whole.

Hardwood, you are surely not one of those catpause type of fans and I gladly enjoy talking to fans that don't have "team goggles" so thick over their eyes it's impossible to discuss anything.

The thing that shocked me most about UK was how they wasn't boxing out late in the game. Stanford grabbed a lot of O boards that Kentucky should have owned. I started watching after halftime but noticed freethrows must of been an issue? Didn't Memphis teams generally struggle at the line as well. What is the deal with Cal and freethrows.

Uk fans have no right to talk trash about Tenn right now. They have got plenty of problems of their own.

Can't say anything to those idiots, even mentioning how close Miami(OH) and now Stanford games were and the response I get is a win's a win and how many losses does Kentucky have? 0 and how about Tennessee? That's what I thought. All of the supposed fans all like different teams in football.

I HATE BANDWAGON FANS

Yeah, we really got beat on the offensive boards. If you go by the numbers, we out rebounded them on the offensive boards(by 2) AND (8) overall. However, we were chucking up shots and getting rebounds, where as they were running the shot clock down, missing shots, and still getting offensive rebounds. Time of possession sounds weird in basketball, but I swear it seemed like they had the ball all the time.

We did not box out worth a damn really, and it showed.
We got out hustled to loose balls and long rebounds from missed three's.

As for the free throws, it wasn't really that we missed a ton, it was just at bad times. When we would position ourselves to run up a good 7-10 point lead, we would blow free throws. Also, we gave them like 4 offensive rebounds off of missed free throws, which is absolutely a sin. Our Free throws were 17-25 for 68%, and thats thanks to John wall who was 8-8 from the line. He has been averaging about 9 a game just from the line. Coincidentally, Cousins was 3 for 8 and air-balled freethrows, and accounted for all our misses except 1. As for why it follows Calipari, I have no idea. I am happy about the fact however that our freshman PG and primary ballhandler is a solid FT shooter, and clutch as well as he hit 2 to send it into overtime.

John Wall is a speed demon.

At one point during the game, he out ran 4 opponents and 3 of his teammates down the court with the ball and scored. Seems like a great kid as well.
