A local report in Utah faced heavy backlash over the weekend after tracking down a paramedic who donated to the defense fund of Kyle Rittenhouse and attempting to confront him at home.

The Guardian reported last week Rittenhouse, the Illinois teenager accused of killing two protesters in Wisconsin in August, received thousands of dollars in donations for his legal defense, including from public officials and police officers.

Jason Nguyen, a reporter from ABC’s Salt Lake City affiliate in Utah, discovered a local paramedic donated $10 to Rittenhouse and headed to his home seeking his "side" of the story. The decision to track down a private citizen for donating $10 was lambasted nationally once Nguyen tweeted about it.

A lengthy new article in the New Yorker examines the tensions between the family and the celebrity attorneys behind the foundation that raised funds for his defense, and reveals that Rittenhouse jetted off to Miami to meet the leader of the Proud Boys after making bail, and hopes to become a pediatric nurse.

In an interview with the New Yorker, Kyle's mother Wendy Rittenhouse expressed her concerns about the #FightBack Foundation, the group founded by attorney John Pierce.

'Kyle was John's ticket out of debt,' Wendy said of Pierce, who stepped down from the #FightBack board in early September to avoid any 'appearance of conflict' as reports emerged about his deep debts, according to the New Yorker.

Lin Wood, the famous defamation lawyer who has recently pushed theories related to QAnon and the presidential election, took over as CEO of the foundation on September 2.

Wendy in the interview questioned why Kyle remained in jail nearly a month after the foundation said it had raised enough money to cover his $2 million bail, wondering if keeping him behind bars was a fund-raising ploy.

Ugh. I am by no means a Rittenhouse fan, but this shouldn't have happened. Some lawyers have never met a publicity situation they couldn't manipulate for their own good.
