:clapping:Kyra Elzy played on two LV national championship teams (1997-1998) and 4 SEC championship teams (1998-2001). Elzy began her coaching career at Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky (2002-2004), Kansas (2004-2008), and then Kentucky as associate head coach (2010-12). Elzy was responsible for the excellent defense established at Kentucky and responsible for recruiting. Then she returned home to UT as an assistant coach and now as associate head coach responsible for the defense (not the horrible offense) and recruiting responsibilities. Why not give her the chance as LV coach? She certainly has the experience and track record to get the LV back on track again.:clapping:

Well, let's see, by changing the name of the assistant coach and changing a few of the accomplishments, your paragraph would have read like this in 2011:

"Holly Warlick was a three time All-American (1977-1980) and 1980 Olympian. Warlick began her coaching career at Virginia Tech and then Nebraska as associate head coach (1983-85). Then she returned home to UT in 1985 as an assistant coach and later as associate head coach responsible for the defense (not the horrible Pat Summitt offense) and recruiting responsibilities. Why not give her the chance as LV coach? She certainly has the experience and track record to get the LV's back on track again."

How has that worked out?

The point is not to derogate your post but to point out what a crapshoot it is hiring somebody. Warlick arguably had a deeper, better resume than Elzy has. Elzy may make a great head coach someday (I hope she does). But nothing's for certain. And I for one am interested in a coach outside the Pat Summitt tree, for what I think are obvious reasons.

I like Elzy a lot and wouldn't be surprised if she could do a better job right now than Warlick is. But if and when there's an opening, IMO we shouldn't even consider hiring someone who hasn't successfully headed a program somewhere.

Pat's coaching tree has really struggled in power 5 conferences when they had the chance and hit or miss in the other conferences...the next LV coach does not need to have UT ties...the LV system does not produce like it did in the 70s, 80s, and 90s

Elzy is articulate and seems bright--but we need a coach who's a proven winner at the mid-major or higher level. We can't take a chance of someone with zero head coaching experience. That's what has got us in this mess.

This is what happens when you have somewhat young assistants who don't leave and become head coaches themselves--get that experience. I guess we've had two or three, but PS's coaching tree is very thin, considering how long she coached. When coaches stay too long as assistants, it is very easy to get stale over time and the game can pass you by. We've seen that first-hand.

Holly failed to snag the top 3 recruits in HER OWN HOME STATE. There is no one committed for next season. That is totally unacceptable. This program is in a state of emergency.

Pretty sure there is no coaching search going on.

I doubt there is an active search for a replacement. But a pragmatic AD has a short list of replacement candidates ready in the event of the unexpected departure of a head coach - sudden illness, retirement, job-change, even death.

I personally doubt Elzy is on that list as anything other than an interim candidate. My opinion only.

Fire Holly now. Turn team over to interim coach Elzy and tell her it's her interview. It's not like she doesn't have top 10 talent on roster. At least we get a look at what she can do while we also look for a big fish.

The next LV head coach must be a coach that knows, teaches and enforces winning basketball fundamentals. I realize that this is far easier said than done. However, this is the only type of coach that can bring the LVs back to national prominence. Is Elzy this kind of coach? I don't know. She lacks a proven record as a head coach. I think the AD should talk with her to see if she can tell him what are the problems with the present team and what can be done to correct the problems. One problem is too many turnovers. I believe this problem is a direct result of frequent changes in starting lineups and frequent and erratic substitutions during games.

Holly will be the Lady Vols coach through the 2016-2017 season.

But, many athletic directors of other schools are reading VolNation and searching for coaching candidates to fill their coaching vacancies that will need to be filled at the end of this season. They were told there are many good coaches on this board that know all there is to know about the game of basketball.

Stay sharp, boys, 'cause you are being screened for a possible head coach job at a major university.

Well, I seriously doubt a consensus of VolNation members will result in any coach being hired. Therefore, I decline to participate.

Also, these kind of discussions have gone on while the embattled coach was still serving. The only thing it has accomplished is embarrassment for the fanbase, thanks to it leading to a moronic petition. So have fun yall. Though I agree it is time for a change, that is as far as I will play it. The more you talk it, the less likely it will happen.

If were going to hire an Assistant make it one of Geno's coaches. I know were not hiring anybody but I would rather go with one of his than any of our present Assistants.

Elzy is doing the substituting during the games.

If Kyra is indeed making the substitutions, I would recommend using the younger players as much as possible since this season is over and I believe the next opponents are in the lower half of SEC. Start thinking about next year's starting lineup.
Geno started his bench players against Cincinnati this week. The result was nine minutes of PT in the first quarter and the lead before the starters entered. Just saying.....
