Other than "trying", I saw nor heard any evidence that Heupel went out of his way to get Bailey to stay. He certainly didn't promise either that he would change the O for them. To his credit, Bailey worked at trying to become faster and a better runner. If Maurer was physically and mentally healthy then he probably should have stayed. But I'm good with both going somewhere they have a good opportunity to start. Either might have complicated the move to Hooker which has worked out well. All coaches do what they have too.
Huepel inherited Hendon, Maurer, Bailey.
He needed to convince Bailey to stay.
Maurer was absolutely right in his assessment of the Milton transfer.
I didn't have a favorite. I just tried to read the "tea leaves". I said Hooker was the leader leaving spring. The O&W reps supported that as did the practice reports. Then in the fall everything pointed to Milton. And ME, Heupel and many others were absolutely wrong about Milton. Heupel was smart enough to let Hendon be the guy after that catastrophe
Don't know. Hooker would have been out there. But CJH had a previous relationship with Milton in FL.Seriously tho, I wonder if Pruitt had been fired earlier and Heupel installed...would he have went after Hendon Hooker in the portal? Pruitt did us a HUGE solid there haha. And you gotta wonder Hendon Hooker with Chaney with a defense of Henry To'oto'o and Jeremy Banks, Alontae Taylor....haha. sorry ....rant.
Didn't say he didn't know what he was doing. I said it wasn't exactly honest. Why did Kelly talk Brennan into staying? Because he needed bodies and felt that he could build an offense around him. As the evaluation went on he began to get the same feelings about Myles as the previous regime.
Brian Kelly knows what he's doing. So does Heupel even though Joe Milton was a miscalculation.

I don't think you should give up yet. Milton may be the most physically gifted QB in CFB. He will be around next fall. If they can get him to control his energy in games then he could still be what many thought and hoped he would be.

I don't think the previous staff was a reflection of anyone but Pruitt. He was an old school coach through and through to include ruling everything with an iron fist. They played the style he wanted to play. They played the pace he wanted to play. He didn't listen to Chaney on significant offensive decisions. He appeared to restrict the O playbook and playcalling with his philosophy on how to play the game. I believe he was exactly what Fulmer wanted when he hired him... except not being clever enough to avoid getting caught. I think Fulmer saw Pruitt as an opportunity to show that his style of play still worked... and prove that he was wrongly fired.

Heupel has a system. It may have some flexibility in it... but not a ton. His QB needs to be able to hit the deep shots and run on occasion. I never saw any report that he promised to redo the O to fit Bailey or anyone else. In fact, it was the opposite as those guys tried to show they could do what he wants... and didn't live up to his standard through spring.
It might help if you watched the Brennan interview. Essentially Kelly said his 30 years of coaching O and QB's gave him the ability to build an O around the strengths of his QB... the direct implication was that Brennan was that QB. It turns out that Kelly either had something in mind then or else changed his mind later. Either way, Brennan could have been elsewhere competing for a starting job.
And frankly, I hope this bites Kelly in recruiting... that he's a guy who cannot exactly be trusted. That only helps UT... plus I think the guy is a goober.

HH is teaching lesson in modern football. ERRYTHING screamed for him to drop a level and play it somewhere else after Milton was named the starter. I stated before last season that whoever “won” the starting job would have to KEEP it under this staff because the “he gives us the best chance to win” mentality got fired along with Pruitt. That was more to my belief that Bailey would ultimately be a factor…I had written HH off, unlike Heupel and staff. For the hinted or outright shade directed at the coaches, it’s where your decisions end up that matter.
I must have missed it. What did he say?Bailey's father came on here (VN) and talked about it. Because Harrison was going to transfer as was Maurer.
He really does remind me of Jones. I think he's a better coach but things like his dance and Jones' attempts to be "cool" make me cringe.Yeah, Kelly is a bit of goober lol

Wow. Separated at birth? It's disturbing how much Brian Kelly and Austin Price look alike.
