If either of them want in then we will let them in….. I doubt they will be scared of this recruit.
You're missing the point. It pains me to say it, but they have better options. They're being chased by programs with established coaches that aren't facing sanctions. We can't afford to chase pipe dreams to the detriment of passing on guys willing to jump in the boat.

You are worried about the wrong things…. We need coaches that are good judge of talent…. Have a solid players with a few stars………in a few years…. We will have our pick of players…. That’s how you build a program….. I have seen players for years like the two you mentioned that never amounted to anything….

I remember being so excited about Brian Darden…. Suppose to be the next Tony Dorsett…… never even had a single carry here.

I understand everyone wants the highly rated guys, but the position we're in, you take the guys ready to commit that you believe can actually help the program. First year HC, facing probation because of the last staff, chances are high a lot of those highly rated guys leave us at the alter for programs not facing the issues we are. If Heupel can prove himself over the next couple of years, recruiting will pick back up, but right now, we have to find those under-the-radar type guys that can fit what this staff wants to do.
Barnes wrote the blueprint on this in basketball

If you are talking about not chasing them then that is a ridiculous idea…. We have a huge recruiting budget…. a ton of recruiting staff…. Pursue the hound out of guys you are interested….. you never know whose mind you might change.

I'm all for pursuing the best, but you can't count on landing them with the current state of our program. So you take guys like Sampson when they're ready to commit to you and don't hold off hoping for a bigger name. That's what some posters were suggesting, asking why we take the commit now. The kid is talented, the staff likes him, and he's willing to come here. No reason to put him off hoping for someone with a higher rating.

Those fans don’t understand recruiting.
