four-star junior running back john emery jr. Of destrehan (la.) high school, a top-100 prospect nationally, confirmed to govols247 on wednesday that he's planning to visit tennessee this weekend.

The 6-foot, 194-pound emery — the son of former vols defensive end john emery sr., who played for the vols in 1993-94 — said he will be visiting tennessee for the first time.

The younger emery released a list of his top eight college choices in late march, naming florida, georgia, tennessee, lsu, michigan, usc, auburn and mississippi state as his favorites. He tweeted at the time that the teams were listed "not in order."

he received a scholarship offer from former tennessee coach butch jones' staff more than a year ago. He holds offers from more than a dozen schools, including all eight of his front-runners, along with alabama, arkansas, oklahoma, ole miss, texas and usc.

Emery is ranked by 247sports as the no. 43 overall prospect and no. 2 running back in the 2019 class. In the industry-generated 247sports composite, he's ranked the no. 74 overall player and no. 5 running back in the 2019 class.

I’ll be shocked if we get him based solely how his wanting to walk in and be “the guy” sense of almost entitlement is in stark contrast with Pruitt’s no promises, you’ll have to work for everything approach with recruits.

Maybe I’m reading too much into one interview, though.

Didn't read an article to know what this is referencing but Pruitt really doesn't have to say much for ankid to look at our depth chart and think there is a great chance to come in a play early.

Emery would be a huge get. I think he's wised up some that it's better to split carries with another RB. He doesn't seem to have any interest in Bama, due to how much Bama splits carries among its RBs.

The Vol's biggest competition may end up being LSU. When Orgeron figures out that he's not getting Noah Cain, he's gonna offer Emery. And Emery might commit to LSU pretty quickly.

6th post in this thread. He wasn't talking exclusively about UT.

“My plan going into college is starting,” Emery explained. “I don’t want to be a No. 2. I want to be No. 1. I also have to think about the long-term and making it to the league. I don’t want my body beat up, so that’s something I need to look at.

“I feel like I should be that No. 1 like Leonard Fournette [at LSU] and the amount of carries he got each game. I don’t want to be Derrius Guice when Fournette was playing. I plan on starting and that’s the goal I have set up. I plan on starting when I go to college and doing big things. I don’t plan on being No. 2 or being a part of a duo. However, I’ll play my part, but my goal is eventually to be No. 1 for sure.”

If we get him, I really hope he can backup his talk. If he can, he will be a big help; if he can't, he could be bad news because the dozen,or so, trolls who post on here will run him into the ground.

If they run him into the ground HERE, it won’t affect him one bit out THERE...commonly referred to as real life. :wink2:
