I typically agree with most of your posts. However, I just don’t understand why folks want to restrict any student athlete from going wherever they wish. Of course we all hope they would make the best choice with the initial school they choose, but it’s unrealistic to think all these 17-18 year olds will get it right the first time. Some of these schools have been around for hundreds of years and will continue for years to come. A student athlete only gets 4-5 years. The schools make $millions off of these student athletes. Why should the schools have any say at all who’s eligible outside of acceptable behavior and meeting academic standards?
There argument would be (under the table) and over the table with scholarships they are an investment... I get the concern for having a million transfers... I think the player will win out but the arguments are legit on both sides.

Noticed TN recruiting twitter liked his transfer portal tweet. I believe that is the behind the scenes crew that runs that twitter

Blows my mind why anyone would want to go there... good gosh. I don’t get it

It’s Florida st. Cool school with a DB tradition. Hot azz chicks. Now if he were a QB or WR then I’d want to know what he is smoking to want to go to that offense. Offensively I’d have to be a running AB or rb to want to play for his offense.Don’t know much about his DC.

Edit: completely forgot he brought in Kendal as OC so that may change that QB/WR thought process if he gives him the keys. If he meddles like Butch then briles will bounce

The school doesnt put them in the portal.

Kid signs contract with college A. Kid leaves college A. Kid forced to deal with consequences of breaking the contract with college A.

Real life ain't nice because you are young.

Even coache's contracts have buy-out wording. If you leave you pay. If you are fired, they pay. Seems pretty logical to me.

I know schools can offer year to year scholarships but I doubt they are given out to kids they sign. School is locked in on their side.

Most major football programs are "cool schools" with tradition and hot chicks. FSU football is a dumpster fire right now. Taggart must be a heck of a salesman...or has really big pockets one.

Blew my mind that FSU hired Taggart. What did he have in his career, one good season? One?
Some people are extremely good at failing upwards

They are treating these teenagers like CEO’s forcing a non- compete clause on them for a $40,000-&50,000 job. No other industry in the USA is there a non-compete enforced on such a low compensated position. I still don’t understand why everyone doesn’t see this?

Maybe because we think that number you put on the value of what they are getting from the university is way too low.

or how about treating them like adults?

and considering non-profits have had non-competes upheld in courts I would say there is precedence.

Not true. insurance agents can easily be at that level and have an NC.

Google says $30K in state and $48K out of state with no aid. A large percentage of these student athletes would qualify for aid.

I’ve read they now include apx $5K for misc since the athletes can’t have a part time job.

Your not counting medical, nutrition, coaching and training for possible millions in the NFL, etc.

Yea, but you have to consider all of the other expenses, too. I usually use this argument when the topic of allowing players to get paid comes up. I am ok with increasing the stipend, but I don’t like the idea of an open market.

There is plenty of value for a player to attend a high level university. Medical expenses (by renowned doctors), nutritionists, tutors, high level coaches, the use of lounges, locker rooms, equipment in addition to the regular expenses for education, food, clothes, room and board, etc. all go into what the school spends. On the football front, medical costs alone have to be pretty high. If you pro rate these out for regular individuals, it adds up quickly. I have previously heard a number north of $100k per year per player.

All of this, along with the intrinsic value of playing every game in front of 100k fans and on national tv, and the value is quite a bit. Zion Williamson is going to make 9 figures partly because he went to Duke. He wasn’t even the highest rated recruit on his team and would not have been the #1 pick out of high school, and Duke gave him a platform that definitely increased his value.

Not to mention (I think the most common sense argument) is if the money goes public instead of under the table the higher rated players will be going on discount compared to what they get now and the lower rated players will get more expensive.... along with bonuses that you get for having a good game... they have it made right now and if they continue to push then it will bite them in the butt. They are just crying wolf... however the “lower” guys are not...

Your focus appears to be on the top 1% who may continue professionally. For the other 99% who won’t get paid to play later, the exposure and training are of little to no financial value. You’re mind is made up already as is mine. Just have to agree to disagree?
