Ladd McConkey would have been a Vol…..

That is truly a terrific story. I’m so glad this “unknown” player had success. Sorry he wasn’t a Vol, but wow, he won 2 national championships. I will say that while he wasn’t super spectacular, he was certainly more than a role player. I was curious as to his speed? Do you happen to know his numbers? He seems quick and shifty.
He's the second fastest player on the team behind Arien Smith, who ran 10.18 in HS. IIRC, McConkey ran 4.45 at UGA.

What this actually means is that Kirby Smart and his staff can take any 3 star athlete and motivate them them to play like a 5 star athlete on gameday. Mark Richt could recruit.........but he could not "coach em up." Another example is Texas AM buying all the 5 stars they wanted and yet they suck. Jimbo Fisher doesn't have the staff to coach all those 5 stars or handle all the problems that come with a team with all that talent. Kirby Smart has a proven solution to keeping the chemistry of his team together which we just witnessed by UGA winning 2 Natties in a row and competing for a 3rd in 2023. It's not just talent, a TEAM needs all the parts to succeed.
He has a roster littered with 5 stars. No amount of motivational speaking can make a 3 star play like a 5 star on gameday. I know he's got a couple of overachievers on this years team but he also has more talent overall than any team they played this year.

I’m glad his career is working out at Georgia but and I mean this as no disrespect but I don’t think he makes us any better. Ladd and to an extent Stetson benefit from being on a team that’s overrun with incredible talent. I imagine the monsters they have on the OL and at TE make life a lot easier for them. Here he wouldn’t be on that type of team.

I'll make the bet with whoever wants it....
Wouldn’t play may be strong but I don’t think McConkey starts here this past season. He would be in the Keyton-White level of our WR rotation and I’m not sure I take him over either of them.

He wouldn't start on next years Georgia team.

And pretty sure he wouldn't have beat out Hyatt or Tillman so MOOT POINT ... MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
You could say Bennett wanted to come here too. He also did well and overachieved, but he wasn't as good as Hooker.

McConkey grew in the Tennessee/ Georgia border county of Murray in NW Georgia. His dad was a standout QB for Dalton Catamounts in the early 90s. The McConkey family bleeds or used to bleed Big Orange. As a skinny, undersized wide receiver at North Murray High School in Chatsworth, GA, McConkey was not recruited by any D1 schools. His dream was to play in Neyland Stadium one day. No offers came from Knoxville.

About two weeks before National Signing Day, Kirby Smart became interested in this relatively unknown receiver. McConkey thought he was being pranked when he heard Georgia was interested. Maybe Coach Pruitt will answer with a call. Nothing from Knoxville. Kirby shows up at one of Ladd’s high school basketball games and makes the offer to come to UGA.

Being a Volunteer family, McConkey makes an unofficial visit to the University of Tennessee to see if CJP might be interested before accepting the Georgia offer. The best they can do is allow him to become a walk-on. McConkey goes on to sign with Georgia and contributes to our butt whooping in Athens this year along with another Natty Title. It’s not always about the 4 or 5 Stars ratings. Kirby recognized pure talent and work ethic. Pruitt and company missed out on a winner.

Can you imagine if we would have had McConkey lined up with Hyatt, Bru, Keyton and Tillman the past two seasons? Hooker would have been even more amazing with the additional talent he would have provided. Can you imagine if McConkey would have not been in a red jersey on November 5th? Ifs and Buts.

The moral of the story is Kirby Smart knew what he needed and Stars didn’t enter into the equation. CJH has put together recruits for what he needs to make this team better. We have some Stars and we have role players that will produce where needed most. CJH will prove himself during the next two seasons. Higher rated players will continue to sign with us. Yes, Stars do matter. Just look at Alabama and Georgia caliber of athletes across the field and on the bench. But, the most important factor is a coaching staff that can assess talent and develop it into Winners. Go Big Orange!

Here's a tidbit, he has a sister who's at north Murray HS, my son's basketball team them last year and she got his number to ask him out. My son didn't want to go out with her. We give him crap that he could have to the NC game. Of course he's all vol

I thought I heard somewhere that Mcconkey's dad and Kirby played ball together? So there was a personal connection?

You can add Trevor Lawrence, Tajh Boyd and Tee Higgins to that list among others.

To clarify Higgins didn't come because of Butch, but the other two were told they were not wanted.

Unlike McKonkey, all three of those were very highly rated

Plenty of 5 stars that don't pan out my friend. It takes chemistry and coaching to hone their high school skills into an elite CFB player and be a selfless teammate at the same time. Whatever Kirby has them drinking its working quite well. Let us not forget that Georgia is just a recruiting machine and they always seem to land that 3* Kenny McIntosh or Ladd McConkey type of player to boot. The freshman that tore his knee in Fall camp, Andrew Paul is rumored to be McIntosh 2.0. I'm on all of the recruiting sites and its just frustrating to watch them land stud after stud. It will be another few recruiting cycles before we can judge if CJH/Staff can recruit and coach our young men to compete for championships. 2022 was one heck of a year to start this thing up! GBO!

It's CJP...nuff said. They also have enough talent across the field it's pick your poison on who's open

Ladd McDonkey and Stetson Bennett the twelfth are 2 of the worst names in college football. For that reason alone I’m ok they didn’t come to UT. Also finishing this season with 10 wins softens that blow.

I know of two local 4 Star tight ends that are so lazy their high school coaches do not scheme around them much. These kids have the body, speed and pass catching abilities to be game changers. Both will sign with big time football programs. I will be surprised if either one starts/plays on Saturdays.

The rule in recruiting is speed and size. If you’re slow and skinny you probably always will be regardless of how hard you work. If you’re big and fast the Univ of Football will get you bigger and faster. Coaches will always take a chance on a fast, tall and powerful prospect that lacks motivation, thinking they can change his heart and mind. Sometimes it works and often it does not.
That is one of the great things about the portal and transfers being simpler now. Under-recruited guys that develop and mature at a DII or DIII School get recognized and move up to DI and these studs that lack motivation can move down to a smaller program and hopefully continue their education and football career.
Size matters! Bigger chickens lay bigger eggs.

Not true. The size of the egg is directly related to the age of the chicken, not the size.

Why are eggs different sizes?
Egg size is related to the age of the hen -- as a hen gets older, she lays larger eggs. Eggs are sorted at the grading station based on weight, not circumference, and packaged accordingly into the following sizes: pee wee, small, medium, large, extra large or jumbo. Learn more.

Michael Penix Jr. Adrian Martinez, Bryce Petty… The list goes on
