LADY VOL HOOPS CENTRAL: Winthrop

There is a live stream that can be accessed through the LVs website.

The LVs are winning by virtue of having bigger and better players but their overall level play and intensity leaves something to be desired at this point.

Ariel had a quite a shooting run...

I respect coaches like C.Vivian stringer (who I feel should have won a title when Anosike was mysteriously fouled at the end of the championship game and hit the game winning free throws) who plays us regardless of records or rewards. She could have easily decided not to play us since then but has stuck to her guns.

I know I misremember stuff, but the championship game against Rutgers was not won on end-of-the-game free throws! UT won by double digits.

In the first half, Winthrop was packing the paint and leaving the perimeter wide open. In that situation, you need to take and make those shots.

Burdick is just a brick shooting the ball but you have to play her because she does defense and rebounds so well.

Just so impressed by the three freshmen. Also, love the way Carter and Burdick hustle. Wish Burdick wouldn't shoot the ball. Just rebound and defense. Also, very impressed by Moore. Reynolds and Carter should continue to run the point.

If you didn't see intensity throughout the game, I'm not sure what you were watching.

Final comment. It will be interesting to see how Holly distributes playing time when Jones and Harrison are back and then when Tucker emerges. I would rotate Jones(1/5) and Burdick(1/5) with Harrison(3/5), Moore(3/5) and Graves(2/5)-rotate those 5 at two positions. And then rotate Carter(2/5), Reynolds(2/5), Middleton(1/5) at one, Mass(3/5), Middleton(1/5), Tucker(1/5) at two, and then Dunbar(2/5), Nared(2/5), Burdick(1/5) at the three.

It will be a nice challenge to have.

Burdick shouldn't be in the game when teams play zone against us. I thought Holly would've figured it out by now. What's the point in putting her at the free throw line when she's not a threat. She can't even drive to the basket. Nared and Jones should see much of Burdick minutes.

That was the game here. Late clock, Nikki fouled, hit the FTs, won the game. Question was clock, not foul. Vivian was furious; I watched the replay numerous times and the clock probably did start late, but unless you want to say the operator intentionally threw the game, you just live with it. FL kicks a field goal after time expires - wins, FL gets an TD on a pass that pops out - wins, vandy play is reviewed that is no way "indisputable" - wins, and TN got the benefit of .2 seconds to win the game. It happens; you live with it.

Now in the FF...we just BEAT them.

You could've found the game on watchespn.com & scroll down to where it says basketball....ncaaw. This is the third (3) time that the Lady Vols have been on the internet. It's really not hard to find if you want to see them play.

You can still watch the replay.

If you didn't see intensity throughout the game, I'm not sure what you were watching.

Well, I kind of saw what Coach Warlick saw:

"We gave up too many rebounds, I thought we needed more hustle plays, I thought we played at 80% of how hard we can play. I thought we could play harder."

Not a big deal against Winthrop per se but that level of effort (and really defensive execution in the half court on the times when Winthrop broke the press) just won't get it done against Stanford or other top ten programs.

I have been watching the LVs a long time and by the standards of this program, this game was not a high intensity effort. And defensive intensity (across 40 minutes) has been the achille's heel to the LVs Final Four quest since the CP3/Hornbuckle/Anosike era.

Still not as consistent as I would like for them to be. Some of the teams we will play will put runs together and that is not good for inconsistent play.
