DALLAS, Texas – No. 25 Tennessee suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 2-1 to SMU in Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.

Graduate Sizzy Lawton found the net for UT (3-1-0), logging her first goal as a Lady Vol. Redshirt-sophomore Ally Zazzaraearned the start in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal in the first half. Redshirt-freshman Abby Reisz took over in the second, making one save and allowing one goal.

Nyah Rose and Eliana Salama were the goal scorers for Southern Methodist (1-1-0). Samantha Estrada played the full game in net, making five saves and allowing one goal.

The Lady Vols came out hot on offense in the first, outshooting the Mustangs 10-3, with six being on frame, while taking nine corners to SMU's one.

Junior Jordan Fusco ripped a shot on goal 15 minutes into play, but Estrada collected the save.

With 21:44 on the clock, Rose got loose in the right side of the box and buried a shot low to the far post to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead early.

Freshman Kate Runyon got a point-blank look in the 32nd minute that Estrada saved with her body, and redshirt-sophomore Jenna Stayart got the rebound a few seconds later and put a second shot on frame, but the SMU keeper was there for another save.

Lawton leveled the score in the 42nd minute, sending a shot near-post off the rebound from a corner kick to send the game into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.

Dallas native Jaida Thomas sent a beautifully placed ball past Estrada six minutes into the second half, but the goal was waved offsides.

In the 65th minute, junior Jordan Fusco broke into the box and got off a contested shot from 12 yards out, but it sailed high.

Jen Jackson ran onto a ball inside the 18-yard box for SMU, hammering a ball low in the 83rd minute, but Reisz made the save to keep the score level.

A minute later, Salama placed a ball far-post through the UT defense, giving the Mustangs a 2-1 advantage.

Simmonds got a head on a corner in the closing seconds, sending it toward the upper 90, but missing just wide, and SMU ran out the clock for the win.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will return home to host Indiana at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday.

EVERYONE IS DANGEROUS: Through four games, UT's 11 goals have been scored by seven different players. Freshmen Sarah Greiner, Kate Runyon and Keaton Mitchell, sophomore Kameron Simmonds (4), junior Jordan Fusco, redshirt-senior Maria Nelson and graduate Sizzy Lawton have all found the back of the net for the Big Orange.

Two of our commits Nyla Blue and Alivia Stott are this years captains on defending National Champions Bearden Bulldogs.
Ms Blue is from the former LVFL blood line of ACE CLEMENT the left handed basketball player. One of my favorites and very well one of the most attractive of all LVs of all time.

If we're honest and polite, we could say that Ace did not live up to her billing as a BB player. In fact, she was quite the disappointment. She was one of a number of players who came to UT with impressive offensive stats but lost whatever offensive talent she may have had playing for the very defensive-minded Summitt.

RE Soccer: I haven't seen the game but may try to watch a bit on replay tonight in England. We had more shots, more SOG and far more corners than SMU. That's the positive. The negative is that this team has too many inexperienced players, some key injuries--we need Hofmann back--and we simply do not shoot well or convert off corners well enough. It's hard to see us getting any goals from Midgley and Washington, Brown is completely inexperienced, Nelson experienced but completely average. When you get good chances, you have to put the ball past the keeper.

I assume Hoffman has to be injured because there is no excuse to let Brown serve over her. Starting Midgley and Nelson got us exactly what you would expect -- next to nothing. Play Diaz more. Simmonds getting hurt didn't help but the most disrupted player was Runyon and she has to play more. Timing on our runs needs to improve that will come probably. Once again Fusco had bascially had an open net and fired it way over the the net.

Dont have a good feeling Jada. She looked tired and slow so she is not well yet. Whether she is or not remains to be seen. Fusco has had some looks and she will play if nothing but for her speed. Runyon has got to play because she is tough and dont take plays off IMO! Let Jada get well and let Kate get playing time. Like a few on her who knows alot I have coached high school soccer and know a little!

Hofmann suffered an injury in the 2nd half of the ETSU match. It seemed to be an ankle injury, but not sure. Need her back.

It's clear that Lawton has been one of our better players--consistently effective, a very nice assist against LIpscomb, scored against SMU. Has she started a game? Nope--still playing about 40 minutes a game as a reserve. Kirt is a guy who gets an idea into his head as to who should be starting and he doesn't want to deviate or adjust, no matter what. We saw that, ahem, last year; He did deviate in the ETSU game--started 3 players who had been coming in as reserves--and the result was impresive: Vols had 17 shots in the first half and, 7/8 on goal, as I recall. Those are big totals for a half of soccer--but that was enough for the coach, as yesterday he went right back to the same starters he had for the first four games.
