400 used to be a controlled pace and finish strong…,, Not anymore It’s now another sprint …. An all out go as fast as you can for one lap (400) meters … 100 and 200 meters used to be considered the sprints and 400 , 800, and mile as distance races in high school! But now … the 400 is another sprint ! The hardest sprint race you can compete in ! Anyone that has EVER RAN A 400….. will know and appreciate another athlete that attempted this race. This is hard on your body…, This is a special athlete and deserves our admiration. JMO

56 seconds is a solid 400 time for a high school female sprinter. Not elite but pretty good. Her Pentathlete background indicates that Ace is a good all round athlete. Reasonable 400 sprint speed does not necessarily equate to lateral quickness per se but it suggests that she can develop that attribute (if not already there). Now I shall venture into a dangerous territory. I think some of the "meh" response to her signing echos "the white men can't jump" stereotype and hence a white girl player is quickly coded as "being unathletic" who would be unable to guard or rebound. That stereotype does not seem to apply Ms. Strickland. She seems to have the physical tools. Maybe that talent is what Kellie is seeing.

Not to mention All-State in softball her Junior Year (State Champs)…leadoff slapper/center fielder. Early interest by Karen in high school before she went to strictly basketball.

Im ok with this if she is a shooter and can defend by moving her feet. We have enough slow girls that cant stay in front of thier opponent.
This....

It's wild that with the world of NIL, Lady Vols brand, and fan support, we can't get big name transfers in here. I hope she kills it here, but it doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. It seems to be adding to what we already have too much of. The numbers at Pitt leave a lot to be desired. We'll see.

I ran it's predecessor ... The 440 yd -. My best times were Around 52 seconds which is about 4 seconds slower than high school. And about eight seconds slower than national records .... Fast for high school very slow by track standard.

And yes I remember pacing myself Until the last 100 yd.

400 m is 2.6 yards shorter than the 440. Definitely had to look that up. My best was 56.5 as a freshman in HS. Went straight FB after that.

She only ran her senior year too! No special training for track just raw ability. From what I remember she ran track to just “be in shape” for basketball and ended up on the All State team lol

She can be a game changer... However , like Our other thoroughbred.,,it's going to take a jockey not a bronco rider.

My best was 52.3. Back then I had multiple gears, top running speed in 3 steps and had the ability to hit a finishing gear for the stretch. My track coach was great,,,taught us on the "no wasted motion" technique.

This "no wasted motion" approach has followed me in teaching basketball...I can recognize mechanical short-cut/techniques that increase a student's speed...e.g.. Like,,in defense when you are moving laterally or backwards,,,the eye-sockets should not be going up and down in the movement. If you are bouncing as you are moving laterally or in reverse you are moving inefficiently. the eye-socket/shoulders should move as if they were on a conveyor...And once they get that understanding I teach them advanced movement...e.g..to move backwards/laterally the movement is from below the knees and to get their direction from their hips (in football there is a drill called "switchfeet"...I bang this drill into my defenders

To the people comparing Ace to Tess watch her state highlights. This was on her insta for her Pitt commitment. Does this look like Tess 🤔 like cmon those are so tough drives and finishes also pretty sure she had 32 this State Semi final game
(If anything it shows where her game can grow in college. Honestly this video is very in line with Jumpers analysis of her)

Sorry, Avery that made me puke. Perhaps beg Geno for a position then?

Aww, now. It's probably not fair for us longtime fans with institutional hatred for all things CT to expect these young kids to take all that on themselves! lol

Yea the Darby comparisons are insane! I mean come on, what few highlights I’ve seen, she doesn’t compare at all aside from the fact she shoots the 3 ball. 🙄 she looks way quicker than Tess off the bounce.

TSSAA STATE TOURNAMENT….. I watched both ladies play on the state tournament in Murfreesboro Tennessee! To compare them is a stretch ! One is 3 or 4 inches taller . Probably about 30-40 pounds difference! One penetrates to the goal better . One shoot the three ball better . One plays outside more ? I mean really…. Just stop

Many wanted to create something of all things equal. Two different kids, two different styles, two different speeds, two different college careers at this point.

IMO the reason for the comparisons is bc that is the position (Tess') that we're desperately hoping to upgrade via the portal right now. So anyone we take is naturally going to be slotted there and compared in some of our minds. But it's correct to say this latest signing is not that upgrade nor meant to be. Definitely whole different level of player, different kind of signing.

The portal is moving at a glacial pace this year and so far our only even semi-meaningful visit has been fm Chuliboly. So forgive us if we hope agaiinst hope that everyone we sign, however unlikely, might help where we need the help as soon as next season. Realistically though, right now, our best hope is that Tess and several others make a true physical transformation this summer (as opposed to whatever they did last summer that obviously wasn't effective) and are able to take that next step.

Ace is a big addition to the Lady Vols. She will fill a void we have had for a few years in that she can play both the 2 and 3 positions.

Wha?? Jordan Horston was a void this signee will fill? Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and everyone who's ever signed gets this overkill treatment. But to me at some point it's just not fair to lay really out there expectations on some of these players.

I wish her the best but am realistic about her role for the upcoming season, which is my only focus right now. She's young though, has plenty of time to grow.

A lot of questions about Ace's abilities will not be answered until we see how Harper uses the girl next season...She appears to have good mobility, which is very positive, and she has a decent outside shot...

I saw her play at Farragut, when she was still in high school...She was the star of the game....She was scoring from all over the place on offense, and she stayed in front of her assigned player on defense....

She also cleans up very nicely...
